Job description

Work Schedule: Shift: 6:30 AM - 3:30 PM, Days: Monday – Saturday, Hours Per Week: 24 (April - October)

Rate of Pay: $16.15 an hour

Job Summary:

The Parks & Grounds Technician are responsible for maintaining and enhancing the city's parks, ball fields, cemeteries, and other outdoor public spaces to ensure safe and visually appealing recreational areas for the community. The role includes a variety of maintenance, landscaping, and operational tasks requiring the use of manual tools, power tools, and light mechanical equipment typically associated with grounds and athletic field maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and clean park grounds, including picking up litter and emptying trash bins.
  • Plant, water, prune, and care for trees, shrubs, and flowers.
  • Assist the Parks and Grounds crew in various duties as required including the responsibilities below
  • Prepare parks, athletic fields, cemeteries, and landscaped areas for public use and events.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and light mechanical equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure proper preparation of athletic fields for competition, including lining fields and maintaining turf quality.

Qualifications:

Technician

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license with an excellent driving record.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and related experience will be considered.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is highly desirable.

  • Schedule flexibility may be available.
  • This position is seasonal and runs from April to October
