Pancoast tumors, also known as superior sulcus tumors, are a type of lung cancer that forms at the apex (top) of the lung. These tumors are unique due to their location and often invade nearby tissues such as nerves, ribs, and blood vessels. Because of their proximity to these structures, Pancoast tumors can cause distinct symptoms like shoulder pain, arm weakness, and Horner's syndrome. Diagnosis and treatment typically involve a combination of imaging studies, biopsy, surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
