Job Description
The Role:
We are seeking a Senior Paint Process Engineer to provide technical leadership and hands on engineering support for paint manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for ensuring safety, quality, throughput, and cost performance across paint processes while supporting continuous improvement, new equipment and new technology. This role includes responsibility for leading and directing a small crew of GM UAW hourly employees, providing technical guidance, work direction, and support to ensure safe, high quality, and efficient production.
The ideal candidate brings deep paint process knowledge, strong problem solving skills, and the ability to lead complex cross functional efforts in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
Own robotic spray booth paint application, including robotic path development and optimization
Lead and participate in paint defect problem solving, both independently and as part of cross functional teams
Ensure compliance to process control plans, standards, and best practices
Support GMS (Global Manufacturing System) and TIP (Throughput Improvement Process) initiatives
Develop SORs and provide project management for tools, stations, or specific paint technologies
Support efficient material flow throughout paint operations
Lead or support the design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch, and continuous improvement of paint equipment and tools required to produce high quality parts
Provide technical direction and oversight to outside suppliers and vendors
Support development, testing, and implementation of advanced paint process technologies
Provide daily technical support to production and coordinate activities with maintenance, quality, and operations teams
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
Minimum 3 years of experience with paint equipment, applications, and troubleshooting using robotic paint systems
Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
Ability to lead and manage a small group of hourly UAW employees
Flexibility to support multiple shifts as needed
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
Bachelor's degree Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical or related field)
Skilled Trades experience
5+ years of experience with paint equipment, applications, and robotic paint troubleshooting
Previous experience as a Paint Process Engineer or Paint Equipment Installer
Experience with Fanuc PaintPro software
