Compensation: $35 - $50 hourly. depending on experience and qualifications. Per diem and travel reimbursement may be available for qualifying projects.

About the Position

HRV Conformance Verification Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced AMPP / NACE Coatings Inspector to join our growing team in the Baltimore, Maryland area. This position supports civil engineering projects including bridges, water towers, and structural steel projects by ensuring protective coating systems are applied in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and client requirements.

The successful candidate will perform quality assurance inspections throughout all phases of the coating process, including surface preparation, environmental monitoring, coating application, and final acceptance. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with contractors, project managers, and clients.

Primary Responsibilities Coatings Inspection (90%)
  • Perform quality assurance inspections of protective coating applications on bridges and structural steel
  • Verify surface preparation, cleanliness, and profile in accordance with project specifications
  • Inspect abrasive blasting operations and surface preparation activities
  • Monitor and document environmental conditions before and during coating application
  • Measure and verify dry film thickness (DFT) and wet film thickness (WFT)
  • Inspect coating application techniques, curing, and final appearance
  • Identify coating deficiencies and document non-conforming work
  • Review contractor quality control documentation and testing results
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, AMPP standards, SSPC standards, ASTM standards, and applicable DOT requirements
  • Prepare detailed daily inspection reports and supporting documentation
  • Communicate inspection findings with contractors, project managers, and clients
  • Maintain inspection equipment and calibration records
  • Promote and maintain safe work practices on active project sites
Project Documentation & Administrative Responsibilities (10%)
  • Prepare and submit accurate daily and/or weekly inspection reports documenting work performed, inspection findings, testing results, and compliance with project specifications
  • Maintain organized inspection records, photographs, and supporting project documentation
  • Submit weekly timesheets and expense reports accurately and on time in accordance with company procedures
  • Participate in project meetings and communicate inspection findings with project managers, contractors, and clients as required
  • Assist with project closeout documentation and other inspection assignments as business needs require
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current AMPP (formerly NACE) Coatings Inspector Certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of coatings inspection experience
  • Experience performing surface preparation and coating inspections
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and access elevated work areas
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments while maintaining exceptional attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
  • AMPP CIP Level 2 or Level 3 Certification (Level 1 will be considered)
  • Experience inspecting highway bridges, transportation infrastructure, and structural steel coating projects
  • Experience with state DOT or other government infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of AMPP, SSPC, ASTM, and DOT coating specifications
  • AMPP C-3 Lead Abatement Certification
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
  • Ability to interpret structural drawings, coating specifications, and contract documents
  • Experience preparing inspection reports and project documentation
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with contractors, project managers, and clients
