Fincantieri Marine Systems North America is hiring for a Paint Lead in the Paint Department at our Jacksonville, FL, location. This is a 1st shift role, Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:45 PM.

Position Summary

The Painter Lead is responsible for training and supporting painters with repairs needed for the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command (MSC), and commercial vessels. This role involves assigning and executing tasks efficiently while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship/workmanship and ensuring all work complies with vessel-specific regulations and quality requirements. This position will provide on-site direction and guidance on work progress and meeting project deadlines. 


Domestic travel may be required.


Essential Functions

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee surface preparation, abrasive blasting, Ultra High Pressure (UHP) Waterjetting, coating application, touch-up, and preservation activities for vessel structures, tanks, compartments, and equipment while ensuring compliance with project requirements
  • Lead workforce assignments, ensuring all painting and coating operations meet quality, safety, environmental, and shipyard standards
  • Inspect and document completed work for compliance with specifications, blueprints, SDS/PDS requirements, and coating thickness standards; document progress and resolve quality or equipment issues
  • Lead daily safety briefings, enforce PPE, respirator, ventilation, confined space, and hazardous material procedures, and provide guidance to junior painters while overseeing the safe operation and maintenance of painting equipment and work areas.
  • Other duties assigned and the occasional overtime

Requirements

  • Possess a strong knowledge of marine coating systems, surface preparation methods, abrasive blasting, UHP, paint application techniques, and preservation practices to train junior painters
  • Read and interpret shipbuilding drawings, coating specifications, work packages, paint schedules, and engineering requirements to determine material needs and work sequences
  • Ability to interpret coating specifications, shipbuilding drawings, work instructions, and quality requirements
  • Strong understanding of shipboard painting, blasting, coating, inspection, and maintenance processes
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills
  • Must have strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
  • Must adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMSNA and have high values for safety awareness

Education and Experience 

  • Journeyman, Technical or associate's degree, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 2 Years of industrial painting, blasting, or coating experience required. 2 Years of shipboard, marine, or heavy industrial coating and leadership experience preferred.
  • Have or are willing to obtain NBPI or AMPP CIP 1, aerial lifts, and OSHA 30 certifications within the first 30 days of employment

Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand or walk; use hands and arms to grasp, handle, manipulate, or feel objects and controls; stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch; and speak or hear. The employee may lift and/or move up to 35lbs regularly and up to 50lbs occasionally. Work is performed both inside and outside in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, and arid climates. Frequent use of PPE is required to minimize noise exposure, moving machinery, weather elements, and other potential hazards, including the risk of injury.
