Description

Established in 1969, Cigarette Racing has innovative vision and legendary style. Cigarette boats are uniquely hand-crafted in the United States and known globally for power, comfort, and luxury. Our high-level execution and premium quality are second to none and we stay committed to building the finest powerboats and center consoles in the world.

We are seeking a dependable and detail oriented Paint Associate to join our production support team. The painter will be responsible for preparing and painting the exterior and interior surface of the boats. The work will involve using various painting techniques to ensure boats are properly sealed, protected, and visually appealing. You will work with a range of materials, pigment, sealers, clears, and primers, while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare boats for painting by cleaning, sanding, and priming surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion.
  • Apply paint to various boat surfaces, including hulls, decks, and interiors, using spray guns, brushes, and rollers.
  • Ensure that all painted surfaces are smooth, even, and free of imperfections, including runs, streaks, or bubbles.
  • Inspect and repair painted surfaces to ensure they meet quality standards before the boat is delivered to customers.
  • Apply protective coatings, anti-fouling finishes, and varnish to maintain the durability and appearance of the boat.
  • Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while using chemicals and working in environments with fumes and dust.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring that all tools, materials, and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
  • Assist in touch-ups and repairs for previously painted boats or areas requiring additional attention.

This list is not exhaustive, and responsibilities may be subject to adjustment based on the evolving needs of the business.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a boat painter or painter in the marine or automotive industry.
  • Strong knowledge of marine-grade paints, primers, varnishes, and finishes.
  • Experience with various painting techniques, including spray painting and hand-finishing.
  • Ability to mix and match colors to meet customer specifications and achieve high-quality results.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to inspect work for imperfections and correct them.
  • Ability to operate and maintain painting equipment, such as spray guns, sanders, and other specialized tools.
  • Experience working with gel coat finishes and fiberglass.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations related to painting and coatings.
  • Previous experience with boat repair or restoration work.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy components, including boat parts and tools up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods while painting boats.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to use painting equipment and apply even layers of paint.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces or awkward positions when assembling certain boat components.

Schedule:  Full-time, Monday through Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm,  with occasional weekend assignments.

This role is based in a boat manufacturing or repair facility. The work environment may involve exposure to chemicals and fumes, requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
