Job Summary:
Panelmatic is seeking an experienced Paint Manager to lead our paint and finishing operations. The Paint Manager will oversee daily painting activities, supervise paint personnel, ensure quality standards are met, and support efficient production of custom control panels and fabricated components. This role is responsible for managing workflow, maintaining safe operating practices, improving processes, and ensuring finished products meet customer specifications.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in industrial painting, surface preparation, paint application methods, and team leadership. This position requires a hands-on leader who can balance production priorities with quality expectations while developing and supporting a skilled paint team.
Job Duties:
  • Supervise, train, and provide daily direction to painters and paint department personnel
  • Plan, prioritize, and coordinate paint department workload to meet production schedules and customer requirements
  • Ensure proper preparation, coating application, and finishing techniques are followed to maintain high-quality standards
  • Review drawings, specifications, and work instructions to verify correct colors, coatings, finishes, and application requirements
  • Oversee surface preparation processes including grinding, sanding, cleaning, masking, stripping, and polishing
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of paint equipment including spray guns, ventilation systems, mixing equipment, and related tools
  • Monitor paint mixtures, viscosity, chemical ratios, and coating thickness to ensure consistent results
  • Inspect completed work for quality, appearance, durability, and compliance with specifications
  • Troubleshoot paint defects and determine corrective actions, including rework and refinishing processes
  • Maintain inventory levels of paint, coatings, supplies, and equipment; coordinate ordering as needed
  • Develop and implement improvements to painting processes, efficiency, and quality
  • Ensure employees follow all safety procedures, including proper PPE usage, ventilation requirements, and hazardous material handling practices
  • Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and performance development of paint department employees
  • Maintain accurate production records, quality documentation, and department metrics
  • Coordinate with Production, Quality, Engineering, and other departments to resolve issues and maintain workflow
  • Operate painting equipment and perform hands-on painting duties as needed
  • Ability to work in enclosed spaces and extreme heat for extended periods of time

Requirements
  • 5+ years of industrial painting experience, including spray painting and surface preparation
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong knowledge of industrial coatings, paints, primers, sealers, and finishing processes
  • Experience reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, and paint specifications
  • Ability to mix and apply coatings while maintaining proper viscosity and finish requirements
  • Experience operating spray guns and other painting equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
  • Ability to troubleshoot paint application issues and identify solutions
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience painting electrical control panels, fabricated metal products, or industrial equipment
  • Experience managing a paint booth or finishing department
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards related to industrial painting and chemical handling
  • Experience working with powder coating, epoxy coatings, or specialty industrial finishes
  • Experience working in a custom manufacturing environment
