Essential Functions:

  • Use electrostatic powder coating equipment as well as performing basic troubleshooting and maintenance of the equipment
  • Use measuring devices such as a dew point meter, dry film thickness gauge, and surface profile gauges
  • Operate bridge cranes, gantry cranes, forklifts, blasting equipment, and packaging equipment
  • Read and decipher shop drawings and reference finish specifications
  • Bend and pivot as well as lift, push, and pull objects weighing 50 pounds through out the shift
  • Ability to stand, walk, crouch, kneel, and climb stairs and ladders
  • Must possess acceptable work history and attendance record
  • Ability to work overtime when required for business needs
  • The ability to be forklift certified within first 90 days of the job

  • This position reports into the shop's Production Manager
  • Rack and unrack parts, brush off, fill, sand, and clean parts for painting
  • Ensure high quality products with visual quality check
  • Maintain and operate painting, blasting, rigging, and packaging equipment safely
  • Prepare paint booth, clean and set-up paint application system

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Ability to lift an average weight of 20 to 40 pounds, 40% of the time(i.e., all small parts, arms and pedestal bases), and lift 50 pound containers 5-10 times per shift
  • The ability to calculate simple mathematics and interpret shop drawings
  • Basic working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook or similar email software
  • The ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues
  • The ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people
  • The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions
  • The ability to meet production, safety, and quality standards in a high-paced working environment
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow facility safety regulations

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Valmont's quality procedures, standards, and practices
  • One (1) year of previous experience in a painting or manufacturing position
  • Experience operating overhead cranes and forklift
  • Experience using dry mill thickness gauges, wet film thickness gauges and micrometers
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Must have a high awareness for safety at all times
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

SKILL

Educational Background

  • Able to do basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division and fraction conversion)
  • Able to read and comprehend routings and shop drawings
  • Able to use a tape measure
  • Able to use a computer to enter production data, perform time keeping functions, interface with machines and other equipment

Job Training Skill Development

This job requires the employee to understand finish specifications and apply powder coating through the use of electrostatic painting equipment. At this level, the employee is responsible for inspecting parts and materials to ensure quality of product. The job also requires routine and troubleshooting maintenance activities to be performed. This job also involves material handling with the ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane. The job requires the employee to maintain the shop and work areas in a clean and safe condition. The job requires the employee to perform in-process quality checks. Progressing through each of the Levels requires passing a written test as well as a proficiency test.

Decision Making

Employee makes frequent decisions that may affect the quality of the products being manufactured. Employees will reference finish specifications, routings, and drawings to determine how to properly prepare, finish, and package the product. Some of the decisions include deciding what settings to use to meet finish specifications, deciding which areas need to be touched up, deciding if the product has a sufficient blast profile, and deciding if the product meets the required specification. These are decisions that affect the employee's own work quality and output, as well as the work of others.

EFFORT

Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds, which include hand tools, machine components, grinding equipment, powder paint boxes etc. Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, climb ladders, walk on elevated equipment platforms, crouch, kneel, and bend over in the duties of the position.
