SHIPPING CLERK JOB DESCRIPTION:Shipping Clerks are responsible for keeping records of all products shipped. They pack the goods in shipping containers, develop mailing labels or bill of ladings, create shipping documents, and ensure that all orders have been filled correctly. A Shipping Clerk prepares items for shipment ensuring cost effective courier services. A shipping clerk typically works in a warehouse environment and is responsible for tracking inventory levels, handling all aspects of shipping and keeping accurate records. They safely package items, print labels, weigh packages and determine appropriate shipment method.Overall Responsibilities:Prepares shipments for commercial conveyance; determines most economical and efficient shipping method; selects appropriate shipping container; packs items to ensure safe deliveryPrepares bills of lading; checks items to be shipped against work orders to ascertain that quantities, destination, and routing are correctProcess return shipments when neededInspects shipments for damages or defects; records discrepancies or damages and notifies department supervisor and/or Production ManagerTraces lost shipments and/or claims of lost shipments; initiates proof of delivery documentsMaintains department database, prepares routine reports, and files shipping recordsOperates dollies, pallet jacks, and/or forklifts in loading and unloading supplies and equipment; may operate the shrink wrap machine; may operate company vehicles to deliver shipments; may assist in routine maintenance of equipment and shipping area; may lock warehouse and set alarmsFollows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standardsPerforms miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by department supervisorWork environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicalsWork may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noisesOrganizes distribution and shipping of merchandise.
