PPS Program Coordinator Primary Location: MFB @ Munson Medical Center Employment Type: Full time - Salaried/Exempt Must possess: RN, PT, OT or ST License Other Benefits: Annual Merit Increases, Health Insurance (Medical, Dental, Vision), PTO, Holiday Pay, PSLF Eligible, Tuition Reimbursement The PPS Program Coordinator is responsible for assigned aspects of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF‐PAI) Program at Mary Free Bed at Munson. The role involves training and ongoing collaboration with the treatment team to ensure accurate data capture and compliance with Medicare and other payor guidelines. Responsibilities also include staff education, quality assessment/improvement, leadership support for documentation systems, and interdepartmental collaboration. Responsibilities Complete IRF‐PAI data to determine patient's RIC, CMG, and payment under the Rehabilitation Perspective Payment system. Develop and implement a schedule for IRF‐PAI completion per Medicare requirements. Ensure accuracy and thoroughness of recorded data. Coordinate pre‐admit assessment and screening with Admission Coordinators, Physicians, and Coders. Evaluate IRF‐PAI data and contribute to patient plan of care development. Coordinate and complete the PAI for all acute rehabilitation inpatients as part of the hospital outcomes tool. Work with inpatient coding staff to identify and document all applicable codes concurrently. Serve as trainer and resource for QRP scoring for all direct care staff. Develop and implement QRP scoring competency testing for direct care staff. Provide QRP scoring education and competency assessment for new hires. Identify educational needs for QRP accuracy through chart audits. Communicate with the Supervisor of PPS Compliance on repeated QRP documentation concerns. Maintain current knowledge of QRP scoring by attending national education. Ensure accuracy of QRP and other data entered. Serve as clinical resource for PPS regulations, compliance, coding, and billing related to IRF‐PAI and CMS requirements. Educate physicians and clinical staff on regulatory requirements. Offer timely feedback and suggestions for improvement when documentation components are missing. Assist in developing a comprehensive, integrated patient plan of care per CMS requirements. Stay abreast of regulatory and accreditation changes affecting the rehabilitation industry. Analyze systems through regular audits to enhance efficiencies and conduct quality assurance activities. Maintain effective working relationships with inpatient rehabilitation medical directors and other physicians. Lead staff development and mentoring for the PPS program. Encourage formal and informal learning opportunities for staff development. Promote a culture of personal accountability, solution‐seeking behavior, mutual respect, timely communication, openness to change, enthusiasm, and pride. Promote collaboration across all disciplines and with other departments and institutions. Integrate all members of the patient care team to provide outstanding rehabilitation services. Collaborate with billers and Utilization Management to ensure claim accuracy. Monitor post‐payment denials and appeals, working collaboratively to resolve issues. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a clinical profession preferred – RN, PT, OT or ST. Minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience and direct experience with the Inpatient Rehabilitation Prospective Payment System (PPS). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Information management skills to communicate, explain, interpret, and present data. Self‐sufficient work style with strong teamwork, problem‐solving abilities. Sense of urgency, collaborative team style, and ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities. Ability to multitask and delegate tasks for timely project completion.
