Job Description:

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a total patient care delivery model in accordance with the standards of practice and competencies of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the Regulated Health Professionals Act and Scarborough Health Network. As a Registered Practical Nurse in the Women's and Children Program, you will be part of a health care team that promotes the birthing experience as a normal, health process and the family as an integral part of that experience. At this time, the RPN will provide comprehensive care to Post-partum women and their newborns. In this role, you will engage in ethical conduct and provide high quality nursing care to patients and their families, based on the philosophy and conceptual framework of Nursing Practice at Scarborough Health Network. Please note that this position is required to work shift work, weekends and holidays.
Requirements:
RPN diploma
Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
Current experience or consolidation training (within last 3 years) in Postpartum
Current Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) and a breastfeeding course is required (or a commitment to complete within 3 months of employment)
Candidates must be interested and willing to be trained to work in alternate clinical areas within the Women's and Children Program
Current BCLS certificate
Evidence of continuing education and professional development is required
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
Demonstrates excellent problem-solving, decision making and critical thinking skills
Demonstrates excellent organizational and time-management skills
Demonstrates initiative and the ability to function both independently and as a multidisciplinary team member in a fast paced demanding environment

Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
