Job Description

Union: ONA # of Vacancies: 2 New or Replacement Position: Replacement Site: Toronto General Hospital Department: Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU) Reports to: Nurse Manager Wage Range: $41.15 - $58.98 per hour (start rate is non-negotiable and in accordance with collective agreement requirements) Hours: Up to 22.5 Hours per Week Shifts: Days/Nights/Weekends Status: Permanent Part-Time Closing Date: August 20 2026

Position Summary

The Medical Surgical Intensive care unit at TGH is a 43 bed level 3 critical care unit providing care to approximately 1000 patients annually with complex medical and surgical conditions who require advanced ventilatory and hemodynamic support.

A highly skilled inter-professional team provides leading edge care to patients with:

  • Solid Organ Transplantation
  • Cardiopulmonary Failure
  • Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
  • Sepsis
  • Multi-Organ Dysfunction
  • Pulmonary Hypertension
  • Pulmonary Thrombosis
  • Shock Syndrome

Duties

  • Applying knowledge of nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision making in the provision of compassionate, collaborative and competent care in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice Model for Nursing and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN.
  • Ensuring practice is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the UHN policy and procedure.
  • Demonstrating commitment to professional life long learning by participating in continuing education activities to meet the needs of the patient population served and the standards of the profession.
  • Performing reflective practice, analyzing and evaluating nursing knowledge and modifying practice accordingly to improve the quality of nursing and patient care.
  • Performing cross-functional and other responsibilities, as assigned and/or requested.
Qualifications
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification
  • Completion of a recognized Critical Care Course required
  • Minimum 2 years recent critical care nursing experience required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Exceptional decision making and problem solving skills
