Job Title
Position Title: Montessori - Para Educator
Location: Various Locations
Salary: $17.85/hr.
Report to: Principal and/or Director of Montessori
Bargaining Unit: Detroit Federation of Paraprofessionals (DFP)
Benefits Eligible: Yes
Telecommuting Eligibility: School-based. Not eligible for telecommuting.
In accordance with the agreement between the Detroit Federation of Paraprofessionals and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, Article XVI, Vacant Positions, the following vacancy is announced:
Position Summary: The Montessori Para-Educator assist both Pre-Kindergarten-8th grade students and teachers with classroom preparation and task to support the learning environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must possess and provide evidence of High School Diploma or GED certification.
  • Sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited institution, passing scores on the Work keys test, or the ETS test prior to 2017.
  • A Child Development Associate credential (CDA), Associate Degree in Early Childhood/Child Development, or at least a class in Child Development with a written plan to complete the CDA or Associate Degree in Early Childhood/Childhood/Child Development for Early Childhood Montessori classrooms.
  • Must be willing to attend and complete 45 hours of Montessori Assistant Training.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist the teacher with instructional tasks assigned to individual students or small groups of students.
  • Assist the teacher with tasks such as recordkeeping, checking students¿ work, preparing and distributing instructional materials, etc.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and the family.
  • Attend Parent-Staff Meetings, during regular working hours.
  • Participate in in-service workshops.
  • Observe student performance and assisting in the planning and implementation of appropriate instructional activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
