Job Opportunity: Outside Machinist
LEAD Staffing
Location: Norfolk
Schedule: Full-Time | Contract | 40 hours per week (Overtime as required)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Outside Machinist to support shipyard operations in, VA. This role involves the installation, alignment, maintenance, and repair of shipboard mechanical systems and machinery in the field, including propulsion, auxiliary, and deck machinery.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install, align, and repair shipboard propulsion, auxiliary, and deck machinery.
  • Perform precision shaft alignments, coupling fits, and bearing installations.
  • Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble mechanical components per technical manuals.
  • Use portable machine tools and precision instruments in confined and restricted spaces.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and alignment specifications.
  • Coordinate rigging, lifting, and handling of heavy machinery components.
  • Document work completed and record alignment data.
  • Follow all shipyard safety procedures and machinery installation standards.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years of outside machinist experience in a marine or shipyard environment.
  • Strong knowledge of propulsion and auxiliary machinery systems.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools and portable machining equipment.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
  • Must be willing to undergo background check and drug screening.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and extended schedules as required.
