ROLE OVERVIEW

The Outside Sales Representative – HVAC & Plumbing grows sales and increases company profitability by cultivating current customer relationships and developing new business opportunities. This role combines technical expertise in both HVAC and plumbing products with strong relationship-building skills to drive revenue, improve customer satisfaction, and deliver value-added solutions in the wholesale distribution market.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales & Customer Development

  • Grow sales by identifying and securing new customers while expanding relationships with existing accounts
  • Prepare and conduct sales presentations of HVAC and plumbing products, systems, and solutions; provide accurate quotations and pricing in alignment with company policies
  • Proactively recommend add-on items and promotional products to improve customer satisfaction and increase profitability
  • Expand and strengthen the dealer network by identifying, recruiting, and onboarding new HVAC dealers while maintaining existing dealer relationships
  • Follow up on sales transactions to ensure customer satisfaction and resolve issues promptly

Technical & Industry Expertise

  • Educate customers on HVAC and plumbing terminology, features, and benefits to support informed purchasing decisions
  • Offer technical support including AHRI match-ups, job site visits, and system recommendations
  • Demonstrate comprehensive product knowledge and apply competitive market insights to help customers succeed
  • Serve as the primary liaison between contractors and manufacturers, facilitating communication and ensuring successful project outcomes

Business & Market Development

  • Track customer needs, trends, and satisfaction levels to identify opportunities and challenges
  • Gather and report market intelligence, competitor activity, and pricing trends
  • Assist customers with marketing strategies and programs to grow their businesses
  • Use company systems and CRM tools to maintain accurate customer records, track sales activity, and plan future opportunities

Operational Responsibilities

  • Monitor shipment schedules and coordinate with purchasing to ensure timely product delivery
  • Accurately complete quotes, orders, returns, and special order requests according to company policy
  • Communicate inventory and demand changes to internal teams
  • Ensure compliance with all company procedures and policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 2–3 years of outside sales experience in wholesale distribution (HVAC, plumbing, or related industry)
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required
  • Basic technical knowledge of HVAC and plumbing products and applications
  • Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and CRM systems
  • Results-oriented with a willingness to be accountable for performance and sales growth
