Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions -

  • Teach assigned Hutchinson Community College biological sciences (general biology, microbiology, human anatomy and physiology) courses. Teaching assignments include evening courses and teaching via alternative delivery systems, such as Zoom, Hybrid, Blended Online and Online.
  • Assignments may include teaching at various high school locations and travel to McPherson and/or Newton Outreach locations. High school semesters may extend beyond the HutchCC academic calendar.
  • Plan and implement appropriate activities to supplement instruction.
  • Plan, revise, and update curricula as assigned by the department chairperson.
  • Maintain accurate records in the learning management system and other documents as requested by the department, including submitting grades and course outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Access the learning management system regularly, respond to emails and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with Outreach and the department.
  • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
  • Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.


Secondary -

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the department chairperson or the Vice President of Academic Affairs, with input from the Outreach Team.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • To instruct transfer courses, a Master's degree is required in biological sciences or related field, or a Master's degree in another field with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in biological sciences.
  • Experience teaching college level courses preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to teach via alternative delivery systems.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with individuals from diverse ethnic, racial, socioeconomic, gender and disabilities populations.
  • Physical requirements include: excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills; ability to understand words and respond effectively and appropriately; visual acuity to view a computer terminal; use appropriate judgment and apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; light/indoor work environment.
  • Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.
  • Physical and mental qualifications must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • The qualifications listed are guidelines for selection purposes; alternative qualifications may be substituted if sufficient to perform the duties.

SALARY and STATUS:

  • The salary is based on the part-time faculty compensation plan. This part-time position is not benefit eligible; exempt.
