Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Home Health Coder II, you will be responsible for ​reviewing and coding for home health and hospice utilizing clinical notes (i.e., H&P, recent Discharge summary progress notes, F2F notes, etc.). You will document recommendations for coding and OASIS edits. You will work with team lead and/or denials team to resolve coding related issues. You will serve as a key promoter of the Home Health and Hospice & Family Care and is responsible for setting the tone of Parallon coding as a service organization, continuously seeking to understand, meet and exceed customer expectations and needs.​

What you will do in this role:

  • Reviews and codes from clinical notes
  • Maintains or exceeds established productivity and quality standards
  • Work in conjunction with A/R team on follow up and resolution of coding related denials/rejections including recommendation of new/updated coding edits
  • Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of coding guidelines and relevant federal regulations through pertinent materials
  • Enhances professional growth and development through in-service meetings, educational programs, conferences, etc.
  • Maintain accurate and timely review of OASIS time points and all related interdisciplinary documentation via the workflow in electronic medical record (EMR) for timely OASIS locks and submission to Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
  • Utilizes available tools and develops training strategies to improve outcomes
  • Addresses edits from Strategic Healthcare Programs (SHP) alerts, and SHP reports for specific outcomes, adverse events and utilization reports in conjunction with Quality Support Specialist (QSS) and/or Team Lead.

What you will need:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Minimum two years professional fee coding experience required with one-year minimum experience in coding the applicable specialties for Home Health and Hospice. Relevant education may substitute experience requirement. Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology is preferred. Knowledge of pathophysiology is preferred.
  • Coding certification required. OASIS Certification preferred but not required
