This position is available to Medical Lab Techs OR Medical Technologists: This 0.0 FTE/Per Diem position is scheduled to work 8-HR variable shifts and is UFCW represented.

Compensation: Comp offer varies depending on certifications MLT vs. Medical Technologist, Non-exempt, $24.93/hr - $56.20/hr

Job Summary:

Responsible for accurate and efficient testing and reporting of waived, moderately complex and highly complex laboratory results.  The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is also responsible for insuring the integrity of all policies, procedures and testing systems including specimen procurement, specimen processing, and specimen distribution procedures. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide timely and accurate test results to laboratory clients: functions as primary resource for analysis of tests.
  2. Performs specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient results.
  3. Confirms abnormal and critical values, verifies quality control procedures, and develops solutions to problems concerning the generation of laboratory data.
  4. Adheres to the laboratory’s quality control policies, documenting all quality control activities, instrument, and procedural calibrations.  Suggests improvements.
  5. Adheres to the laboratory’s equipment maintenance policies: perform preventative and corrective maintenance, identify sources for repair and document all maintenance procedures.
  6. Performs proficiency testing and maintains records that demonstrate that samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
  7. Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
     

Additional Essential Duties for Medical Technologist:

  1. Performs all STAT and routine clinical testing according to established standards and completes analysis within established time frames.
  2. Reviews policies and procedures for compliance to laws, regulations, and inspection agency standards.  Suggests improvements to Director.
  3. Reviews and evaluates lab reports for clarity, accuracy, and timeliness.
  4. Participates in the orientation and competency assessment of students and new employees.
  5. Participates in the continuing education opportunities and disseminates information to peers, MLTs, Lab Assistants and other laboratory staff.
  6. Effectively produces department summery for the status of any outstanding work for the next shift.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. For Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) position: Associate degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program or equivalent.
  2. One (1) year experience in a hospital-based lab is preferred.

OR

  1. For Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist position: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Medical Technologist program or a related science degree.
  2. One (1) year experience in a hospital-based lab is preferred.

Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

  1. For Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT): Registry as a Medical Laboratory Technician; MLT (ASCP/AMT/AAB).
    • Individuals hired under 48211, Registry Eligible, will have 6 months from date of hire to become registered.

OR

  1. For Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist Position: Registry as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS); MLS/MT/MLT (ASCP/AMT/AAB).
    • Individuals hired under 48209, Registry Eligible, will have 6 months from date of hire to become registered.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Maintains comprehensive working knowledge of current trends and techniques in laboratory science.
  2. Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to identify and employ communication strategies appropriate to the audience.
  3. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and display flexibility in a fast paced and changing work environment
  4. Able to create, model and sustain a positive environment; effective collaboration, counseling, conflict resolution skills.
  5. Able to use one or more electronic medical record applications (e.g. Cerner).
  6. Effective communication skills.
