What are Surgical Techs in a Cardiac Cath Lab?

Surgical Techs in a Cardiac Cath Lab, also known as Cardiovascular Technologists or Cath Lab Techs, are specialized healthcare professionals who assist physicians during procedures to diagnose and treat heart conditions. Their responsibilities include preparing and maintaining the sterile field, handing instruments to doctors, operating specialized equipment, and monitoring patient safety during cardiac catheterization and other interventional procedures. They play a critical role in ensuring the efficiency and safety of procedures such as angioplasties and stent placements.

Who makes more, PCT or surgical tech?

A Surgical Tech in a Cardiac Cath Lab typically earns a higher salary than a Patient Care Technician (PCT). Surgical Techs have specialized training and often require certification, which can lead to higher wages compared to PCTs, who generally have less formal education and training. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, radiologic technologists, and physicians, is essential for patient safety and procedural success.
