Job description

The Sr. Supply Chain Sourcing Leader leads sourcing execution for North America outbound dry van and intermodal for the insulation and roofing businesses. The primary goal of this role is to develop and execute a long-term strategy to achieve the best possible combination of price, service, and capacity in support of outbound logistics through strategic management of freight and market expertise.  The Sr. Supply Chain Sourcing Leader is responsible for developing a yearly freight capacity plan that delivers outstanding service to our customers and supply chain partners at budgeted cost levels.  As outbound freight demand and the freight market changes, the Sr. Supply Chain Sourcing Leader is expected to adjust their capacity plans to meet or exceed goals. This will be accomplished by analyzing freight data, connecting with business partners, reviewing market intelligence and connecting with key carriers. The role optimizes relationships with the business directly working with carriers (from dispatchers to Presidents of our carrier base), Supply Chain (Supply Chain Leaders, Logistic Leaders, and Sr. Supply Chain Sourcing Professionals), Sourcing (Sr Sourcing Leaders and Directors), and the Shared Services group to assure goal alignment and error free execution of the outbound transportation process. Yearly spend the Leader supports in this role is ~$220MM.


A successful candidate must have exceptional analytical skills and the initiative to take action. Responsive, clear, detailed, and action-oriented communication skills are critical for this role. Facilitating change and building internal and external partnerships with multiple functions is critical to this role in logistics.  Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers is an integral part of the role, including regular communications with core and strategic suppliers with the intent on strengthening partnerships and gaining market intelligence. Ability to lead and coach team members from other functions with regards to transportation operations and the freight market. Knowledge of the freight industry, SAP, and supply chain are required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Sourcing Outbound Freight to Meet Business Needs

  • Central point of contact for integrating logistics issues to the S&OP agenda and the primary logistics contact for supply chain planning and customer operations including the facilitating of operational reviews.
  • Reviewing daily outbound operations to monitor carrier service reliability.
  • Monitor awarded business for rate/carrier compliance, and manage carrier spend for business units covered.
  • Developing and implementing transportation capacity plans to handle year-round shipping volumes and seasonal variations.
  • Ensure capacity for daily operations including strategic sourcing, rate negotiation, contracting and implementation of carriers.
  • Ownership for annual RFP for accountable business units which include gathering historical data, running and planning for multiple scenarios, analysis, implementation, and monitoring. Annual spend of ~$220MM.
  • Negotiation of off cycle bids with carriers as business, market or carrier conditions dictate.
  • Development of long-term strategy to ensure security of capacity and price that regularly beats the market.
  • Completes robust carrier reviews quarterly to manage performance to, and alignment with our service metrics, cost targets, and partnership goals.
  • Develop business rules in conjunction with business Supply Chain management to minimize cost and improve service reliability.
  • Exposure to large integrated software systems (ERP, MRP, SAP). 
  • Ability to respond quickly to the demands of the moment. Remains productive and effective in a variety of environments. 
  • Maximizing the implementation and usage of SAP and TM to drive standardization and increase operational efficiencies.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders in finance and supply chain to develop reports with the intent to drive actionable change.

  • Continuously grows understanding of the Insulation and Roofing businesses, in addition to proficient understanding of the specific modes within the North American transportation industry.
  • Monitor external markets for inflation knowledge and provide feedback to business unit leaders about the transportation market environment and the cost/service impacts on each business while developing strategies to optimize efficiency/performance with business partners
  • Managing outbound service performance of carriers and freight cost.
  • Visits carriers to nurture relationships that drive logistics improvement for Owens Corning.
  • Achieve defined service expectations aligned with business goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree - Logistics or Supply Chain preferred.
  • Demonstrated 5-7 years in transportation management, dry van capacity sourcing preferred.

  • Experienced in supporting transportation planning and execution for a midsize to large corporation.
