OR Coordinator/Scheduler

OR Coordinator/Scheduler duties:

Position responsible for performing complex and diversified duties for the department. Responsible for the scheduling of patients in multiple procedural areas for two hospitals. This role requires consistent, accurate scheduling of patients, procedures, vendors and special equipment needs. Excellent communication skills, team work, phone etiquette, critical thinking, surgical terminology (spelling and pronunciation), attention to detail, trouble shooting and consistent follow through a must for this position. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Licenses/Certifications: (none)

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred, in some departments may be required
  • Ability to read and write and perform duties following oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to work various shifts for extended periods as determined by the director
  • Ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, stooping, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds

Principal Accountabilities

  • Assists the OR Environment/Holding Area Clinical Manager with: planning, organizing, scheduling department workload, and making daily work assignments.
  • Assists the OR Environment/Holding Area Clinical Manager with managing departmental employees: provides daily performance feedback to employees as required, gives input into performance appraisals, conducts quality inspections, participates in interviews, and supervises employee training processes.
  • Inspects physical condition of facility and takes appropriate corrective actions.
  • As needed, will assist with physical preparation of patient and physical environment according to the age/needs of the patient/population served. Transports and transfers patients as necessary. Functions as a porter between departments ensuring required medical supplies, information, specimens, and products are delivered in a timely fashion.
  • Collaborates with Holding Area Nurse to provide staffing resources to the Holding Area.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann's service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
