Optum is seeking a visionary, growth-oriented Senior Vice President (SVP) of Sales to lead our Commercial Payments business line and chart the future of Optum Payments across both Optum Financial and Optum Insight. You will own the overarching growth strategy, act as the enterprise rainmaker, and drive transformative business outcomes. In this high-impact role, you will lead a high-performing sales team, partnering closely with Relationship Management and Product teams to drive the business forward. You will work cross-functionally across various business segments-collaborating with Optum Market Presidents, Client Relationship Leaders, and Optum Financial Leadership-to push complex deals beyond Optum Financial forward. Working in lockstep with the GM of Commercial Payments and the Commercial General Manager, you will develop and execute compelling plans and strategies to grow our current sales pipeline 2-3x. If you are a seasoned executive with a proven history of selling to national payers, driving cross-segment strategy, and delivering complex, high-margin commercial wins, join us to redefine the future of health care financial technology.

For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Own the global growth and sales strategy for the Commercial Payments business, aligning business development goals with broader enterprise and market demands to triple (3x) the current sales pipeline
  • Lead and manage a high-performing sales team in close coordination with Relationship Management, Marketing, and Product leadership to align sales enablement with product capabilities and client success
  • Collaborate closely with the GM of Commercial Payments and the Commercial General Manager to design and execute business growth strategies and commercialize new solutions
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration across multiple business segments, working closely with Optum Market Presidents, Client Relationship Leaders, and Optum Financial Leadership to push complex deals forward
  • Act as the chief hunter and market rainmaker, personally orchestrating and closing landmark, complex commercial agreements with senior Payer executives and strategic partners
  • Chart the future of Optum Payments across both Optum Financial and Optum Insight by maintaining deep industry expertise and rapidly responding to market and regulatory trends. Understanding of core payments and communications market trends, product offerings, and market opportunities to drive the growth strategy
  • Represent the organization as a market thought leader and industry expert through active presence, speaking engagements, and executive-level industry forums
  • Formulate and execute a long-term technology and digital enablement strategy, championing the integration of advanced predictive analytics and AI-driven sales enablement systems to optimize market penetration
  • Partner directly with the GM, senior Finance and Marketing leaders to establish innovative pricing architectures, commercial margin targets, and high-impact value propositions

Required Qualifications:
  • 15+ years of enterprise growth, sales, or business development leadership experience
  • 8+ years of executive sales leadership experience, with a proven track record of building and managing high-performing, multi-tiered enterprise sales organizations
  • 5+ years of experience working cross-functionally across massive enterprise business segments (such as matrixed environments collaborating with Market Presidents, Client Relationship Leaders, and executive general managers) to close multi-segment deals
  • Experience in healthcare payer, fintech, or commercial payments sectors
  • Demonstrated track record of designing and executing strategic sales plans that successfully scaled a sales pipeline multi-fold (e.g., 3x growth target)
  • Proven experience managing high-level relationships with executive-level stakeholders (C-suite) across multiple national payers, channel partners, and critical external vendor partners
  • Experience partnering directly with GM, Finance and Marketing executives to design and execute enterprise-level commercial models and complex pricing structures

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree (MBA) or equivalent advanced business/healthcare degree
  • Demonstrated experience and results navigating and driving growth across internal business units
  • Active board memberships or leadership roles within key healthcare financial or payments industry associations
  • Visionary leadership capability with a documented history of leading large-scale organizational and high performing sales teams
  • Deep, existing relationships with national healthcare payer executives and UnitedHealthcare (UHC) senior leadership
