Job description

The Opportunity

Arize Federal Credit Union is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the day-to-day operations of our Accounting Department. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the credit union's financial records, directing the monthly close process, preparing financial and regulatory reports, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and providing financial analysis that helps guide strategic decisions.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the daily operations of the Accounting Department and supervise accounting staff.
  • Direct the monthly financial close process and prepare financial, statistical, and management reports.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the general ledger, daily settlements, ACH, ATM/debit card, share draft, bill pay, and related accounting activities.
  • Prepare regulatory and external financial reports.
  • Assist with the annual budget, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Coordinate annual audits and examinations and work directly with auditors and examiners.
  • Ensure accurate accounting for mortgage sales, business loans, loan participations, and unclaimed property (escheat).
  • Monitor compliance with accounting principles, internal controls, and credit union policies.
  • Develop and improve accounting procedures and operational processes.
  • Coach, develop, and evaluate department employees.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5–10 years of similar or related accounting/financial management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and accounting software proficiency.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
