Job description

About Us:
Comfort Temp Company is a family of mechanical contracting and HVAC service businesses headquartered in Gainesville, Florida, with operations in Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa. Our companies include CT Mechanical, a commercial mechanical contracting division specializing in plumbing, pipefitting, HVAC, and mechanical systems for commercial and industrial projects, and Comfort Temp Heating and Air, our residential and light commercial HVAC and plumbing service division. We are guided by four core values: Do what you say. Do what it takes. Walk with purpose. Do the right thing. We build careers the same way we build projects - with intention, accountability, and craftsmanship.
Job Summary:
The Project Analyst serves as the financial backbone of Comfort Temp's project operations, focused entirely on analyzing cost and profitability of HVAC and mechanical contracting projects from estimate through closeout. Working alongside Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and Operations Managers, this role tracks job costs against budgets, surfaces margin risks early, and delivers the analysis and reporting that helps project teams make faster, better-informed decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Job Costing & Cost Tracking: Monitor labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs against project budgets across the full project portfolio. Maintain accurate job-cost detail in the ERP/accounting system. Track change orders and scope adjustments. Validate cost coding and flag misallocations before they distort project margins.
• Profitability Analysis: Produce project-level profitability analysis including gross margin, cost-to-complete, and estimate-vs-actual variance reporting. Build and maintain WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion analysis in partnership with the finance team. Identify margin erosion, cost overruns, and underbilling/overbilling.
• Partnership with Project & Operations Teams: Serve as the primary analytical partner to PMs, APMs, and Operations Managers on all cost and profitability matters. Lead or support regular job-cost review meetings. Compare as-bid estimates to actual performance and feed lessons learned back into future estimating.
• Reporting & Continuous Improvement: Design and maintain dashboards and recurring reports on project performance, backlog, and portfolio profitability. Recommend and help implement improvements to job-costing processes and reporting workflows. Support month-end and project closeout reviews.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
• Experience: 2+ years in financial analysis, job costing, or project analysis. Direct HVAC, mechanical contracting, or construction experience preferred.
• Skills: Advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling). Familiarity with Sage, ServiceTitan, Procore, or similar ERP/field-service systems a plus.
• Core Competencies: Analytical rigor, business partnership, ownership, and process orientation. Ability to translate raw project data into clear, decision-ready insight for non-financial audiences.
Company Culture:
At Comfort Temp Company, we do not hang our values on a wall and forget about them. Do what you say. Do what it takes. Walk with purpose. Do the right thing. These are the standards we hold each other to - in the field, in the office, and in every conversation. We invest in our people, recognize the work that gets done, and make room for careers that actually grow. If you want a place where your effort shows up and matters, this is it.
Application Instructions:
If this role sounds like the right fit, we want to hear from you. Submit your resume to brandon@comforttemp.com. A cover letter is welcome but not required. Tell us what you bring and why this opportunity makes sense for you.
