Job description

Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
South Texas Health System supports multiple residency and fellowship training programs that rely on simulation centers as a core component of medical education. These centers also serve nursing, allied health, and interdisciplinary teams across system facilities and provide opportunities for external partnerships that generate additional revenue.
The Manager, Simulation Operations provides strategic and operational oversight of all simulation activities across the health system. This role is responsible for the leadership, development, and expansion of simulation programs while ensuring alignment with ACGME requirements, institutional goals, and best practices in simulation-based education.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated experience overseeing simulation laboratory operations, including multi-site or system-based environments.
• Proven ability to manage day-to-day operations, including scheduling, staffing coordination, and resource allocation.
• Experience supervising the functionality, maintenance, and lifecycle management of simulation equipment, including high-fidelity adult and pediatric manikins and task trainers.
• Ability to develop and implement standardized policies, procedures, and workflows to support efficient simulation center operations.
• Demonstrated expertise in the development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-based curricula in alignment with ACGME requirements.
• Experience expanding simulation programming to include interdisciplinary and in situ training initiatives.
• Proven ability to collaborate with Program Directors, faculty, and educational leaders to integrate simulation into residency and fellowship training.
• Experience establishing competency-based training frameworks, assessment tools, and performance evaluation methods.
• Experience in budget development and financial oversight, including operational and capital expenditures.
• Ability to participate in strategic planning efforts, including capital investment in simulation technology and facility enhancements.
• Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for program growth, operational efficiency, and return on investment.
• Experience working within a matrixed leadership structure, collaborating with administrative and physician leadership.
• Proven leadership ability in supervising and developing simulation staff and support personnel.
• Strong collaboration skills with GME leadership, nursing education, allied health, and hospital departments to align educational initiatives with organizational priorities.
• Experience developing and maintaining partnerships with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, and community agencies.
• Ability to promote and expand simulation services, including external training opportunities and revenue-generating activities.
• Demonstrated success in enhancing program visibility, utilization, and strategic positioning.
• Strong knowledge of ACGME standards, accreditation requirements, and regulatory compliance in GME environments.
• Experience monitoring program performance through data analysis, reporting, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Ability to maintain detailed documentation of simulation activities, outcomes, and utilization metrics for accreditation and reporting purposes.
EDUCATION / LICENSURE:
• Bachelor's degree required Master's degree preferred; preferably in a related field such as Simulation, Computer Science, Management Information Technology, Film or other healthcare, science or technology related field
• Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist® (CHSOS®) certification required to obtain it within two years of hire
• Minimum three years' experience working as a simulation technician, operations specialist, or equivalent position required
• Minimum three years' experience working in a healthcare related field including EMT, paramedic, or other allied health profession preferred
• Experience in computer technology and troubleshooting, and providing technical support in networking, computer hardware/software required
