Bird

Edmonton, AB • On-site

Contractor

Job description

Job Summary

The Operations Partner is a critical logistical role essential to Bird's success in Edmonton. You will take responsibility for the logistics of the local fleet of e-scooters and e-bikes, ensuring they are charged, safe, and positioned correctly to meet the community's transportation needs.

We are looking for entrepreneurial individuals or logistics businesses ready to hit the ground running. Whether you are a solo operator with a single van or a fleet owner capable of deploying multiple drivers, you can scale this partnership to fit your capacity.

You will have the flexibility to choose how you operate:

  • Maximize earnings by securing your own space (warehouse/facility) to charge vehicles overnight.
  • Streamline operations by simply retrieving and transporting vehicles to our central warehouse.

This is a pay-per-task role where compensation is directly tied to productivity. With an estimated daily volume of 1,000+ vehicles, the earning potential averages $30+ per hour,  with opportunities to earn more based on efficiency and performance.

Important Details About the Role:

  • This is an independent contractor position, not an employee role.
  • You are responsible for your own tools, equipment, and any associated expenses required to complete your work.
  • As an independent contractor, you manage your own schedule and workload to meet the operational needs of Bird.

Responsibilities

  • Fleet Transportation: Utilize your vehicle(s) or fleet to collect, deploy, relocate, and retrieve e-scooters and e-bikes across Edmonton daily.
  • Task-Based Operations (Choose your model):
    • Retrieve & Charge (Highest Margin): Collect vehicles, charge them at your own secured facility, and deploy them the next morning.
    • Retrieve & Drop-off: Collect vehicles and transport them to the local Bird warehouse for charging.
  • Operational Management: Manage the end-to-end operation of your assigned portfolio, ensuring vehicles are available in high-demand areas.
  • Maintenance & Quality: Perform light field checks to ensure vehicles are safe and environmentally friendly.
  • Field Execution: Problem-solve in real-time to overcome obstacles, prioritize tasks, and navigate local geography efficiently.

Must Haves

  • Vehicle Access (Required): Must own or have consistent access to at least one large vehicle (van/truck) suitable for transporting multiple scooters/bikes. Fleet owners with multiple vehicles/drivers are encouraged to apply.
  • Storage Space (Asset): Access to a garage, warehouse, or commercial facility with electricity is highly preferred for maximizing earnings (allows for overnight charging).
  • License: Valid Class 5 Driver's License (or applicable commercial license) with a clean driving record for all operating drivers.
  • Physical Ability: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly; must be able to stoop, bend, walk, and stand for long periods while handling heavy equipment.
  • Availability: Flexible schedule with a willingness to regularly operate on weekends.
  • Tech-Savvy: Comfortable learning new mobile tools to locate and manage the fleet.
  • Local Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Edmonton's local geography.
Why Bird Matters

Every time you hop on a Bird, you're helping build a more livable city. We focus on four core pillars that reflect the impact of every ride:

  • Freedom: We're the bridge that connects you to every experience-simple, convenient, and stress-free. We give you the freedom to move without limits.
  • Exploration: We turn everyday trips into memorable experiences, sparking discovery and wonder as you connect with the world around you.
  • Community: Taking a Bird is an act of citizenship. We create a sense of belonging and unity, knowing that the richer our communities become, the richer our lives become.
  • Sustainability: Our electric vehicles reduce gas-powered car usage and lower carbon emissions. We enable responsible choices, creating tangible impact and driving progress toward a cleaner future.
