The City of Artesia seeks a motivated and service-oriented individual to join its Management Intern Program. The ideal candidate is a recent graduate or emerging professional with a strong academic foundation in Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, or a related field. They are intellectually curious, eager to contribute to meaningful local government work, and ready to develop hands-on experience in a municipal environment.

Examples of Duties May Include: Conduct basic research and data collection on assigned projects, including gathering benchmark data from other agencies or compiling publicly available information. Assist with the preparation of written reports, presentations, or summaries for departmental use or public distribution, under the guidance of professional staff. Participate in observing and documenting internal workflows and processes for the purpose of learning about departmental functions and recommending efficiencies.

Support short-term special projects by contributing to tasks such as tracking deadlines, coordinating meeting materials, or assembling data. Attend staff meetings, workshops, and public events to gain exposure to the functions of local government and interdepartmental operations. Shadow department staff or project teams to understand the roles, responsibilities, and challenges within city operations.

Draft communications such as email templates, outreach materials, or internal memos under supervision for learning purposes. Assist with data entry, file organization, or digital recordkeeping as part of a time-limited project with clearly defined learning goals. Help design or review simple surveys or feedback tools to support community engagement or internal process improvement efforts.

Prepare a final capstone presentation or report summarizing internship takeaways and recommendations related to assigned projects. The Management Intern Program is an entry-level position open to the following candidates: Recent graduates of a Bachelor's program; or Current graduate students or recent graduates of a Master's program in Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field; and Six months of experience in a public sector setting; and A strong interest in pursuing a career in public administration Recent Graduates - Candidates must have graduated within one year of submitting their application. Expected Graduation Date - Candidates who are expected to graduate with their bachelor's degree before the start of the internship must complete their degree requirements prior to the program's start date.

The Management Intern is an entry-level position for recent graduates who have completed their bachelor's degree, and candidates must have officially graduated by June 2026 to be eligible for consideration Position is part-time and non-benefitted. Limited to a maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year. There is no guarantee of permanent employment following completion of the internship.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT: All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of both a pre-employment physical exam, including a drug/alcohol test, and a criminal background investigation, which involves fingerprinting (A felony or misdemeanor conviction may disqualify the applicant from City employment). Tentative Recruitment Examination Processes are Planned as Follows: Written Performance Examination and/or Oral Interviews: Monday, June 15, 2026 Application Process: Please submit your online application through the City of Artesia website.
