What are Operations Management Internships?

Operations Management Internships are short-term, practical work experiences that allow students or recent graduates to gain hands-on exposure to the processes that keep organizations running efficiently. These internships typically involve assisting with process optimization, analyzing workflows, coordinating between departments, and supporting the implementation of operational strategies. Interns often learn about supply chain management, logistics, inventory control, and quality assurance. These experiences can help individuals build essential skills and gain industry knowledge, making them more competitive for future roles in operations management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Operations Management Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Operations Management Intern, you need strong analytical skills, basic understanding of supply chain concepts, and coursework in business or management. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems like SAP, and data analytics tools is typically expected. Strong organizational skills, effective communication, and a proactive attitude help interns stand out in dynamic operational environments. These skills and qualities are critical for supporting efficient processes, driving continuous improvement, and contributing meaningfully to team goals.

What are some typical projects or tasks an Operations Management Intern can expect to work on during their internship?

As an Operations Management Intern, you will typically be involved in projects that support process improvement, data analysis, and workflow optimization. Common tasks include collecting and analyzing operational data, assisting with supply chain management, participating in inventory control, and supporting the implementation of new procedures. You'll often collaborate closely with cross-functional teams such as logistics, procurement, and production, gaining exposure to various aspects of operations. This hands-on experience not only builds practical skills but also provides valuable insight into the challenges and strategic decisions faced by operations teams.

Job description

Business Operations Management Internship – Paid, Hands-On Role with Real Growth Potential

At: Anderson Sport & Wellness | Newport Beach, CA (On-Site)

Join a thriving, client-centered physical therapy and wellness practice where your ideas and competencies directly shape our success—and help transform lives every day.

We are a premier holistic PT clinic in beautiful Newport Beach, specializing in orthopedic manual therapy, chronic pain relief, sports recovery, and personalized wellness (including MELT Method, Pilates, and free community workshops). Our energetic, positive team uses cutting-edge technology and specialized care to help patients reclaim active, pain-free lives. We're a family-friendly, collaborative environment where everyone contributes to meaningful outcomes. The owner of the clinic is launching a Nonprofit organization this year to provide financial assistance to patients who need medical care that is not covered by insurance, and is also working on a medical device project. The plan is to bring that device to market in the near future.

As our Business Operations Management Intern, you'll gain invaluable, real-world experience managing a successful small medical practice—far beyond typical admin tasks. You'll work side-by-side with the owner (a practicing lead therapist), physical therapists, front desk, aides, and fellow interns in a dynamic, supportive setting. The successful intern may also be invited to assist the owner with the nonprofit and medical device projects.

What You'll Do (Under Experienced Mentorship):

  • Drive daily operations: Optimize schedules, audit for efficiency, manage inventory, and ensure seamless patient flow to maximize revenue and satisfaction.

  • Contribute strategically: Meet weekly with providers and the owner to brainstorm, evaluate processes, recommend improvements, and implement changes that boost growth and profitability.

  • Oversee key business functions (under mentorship): Leverage team to track revenue, patient data, and leads; respond to inquiries within 24 hours; scrutinize expenses; maintain systems with IT support; audit systems and processes, and ensure compliance with regulations. Your leadership skills will be leveraged and developed under mentorship.

  • Support digital & marketing efforts: Assist marketing and recruiting team with tools like PhysioFunnels (CRM), Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and JazzHR.

  • Solve real problems: Adapt to challenges, resolve conflicts with respect, and bring proactive ideas to keep our clinic running efficiently.

This is not just busywork—you'll make tangible contributions to our clinic's success while building a strong foundation in business operations, entrepreneurship, marketing, sales, HR, and more.

Why This Internship Stands Out:

  • Paid competitively: $20–$35/hour based on experience, with performance-based raises and advancement opportunities.

  • Flexible commitment: 15–29 hours/week (Internship length is 12 weeks). Rolling basis—positions available now (not just summer). When there is a position open and good alignment, interns may be hired full time or part time after the internship is over.

  • Exceptional mentorship: Daily check-ins plus bi-weekly 1:1 coaching with the owner/founder focused on business operations and entrepreneurship.

  • Custom learning track: Choose your focus (Business operations, or entrepreneurship) with training videos, resources, and a capstone project to showcase on your resume.

  • Clear path to more: High-performing interns often transition to roles within the company, and there is room to grow based on performance.

  • Perks: Sick time, positive team culture, and the chance to work on a team that makes a positive difference in people’s lives every day.

We are seeking business students who are:

  • Positive, friendly, and great at building relationships.

  • Excellent communicators (written + verbal) with strong attention to detail and organization.

  • Quick learners who ask thoughtful questions and adapt proactively to change.

  • Resourceful, persistent, and tenacious problem-solvers.

  • Proactive idea-generators with superior time management and conflict resolution skills (our culture values respect and honor).

  • Comfortable with tech: Solid Microsoft Office/Google Workspace; bonus for CRM, social media, YouTube/podcasting, or JazzHR experience.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Business Administration or related field (graduation 2026–2027 preferred).

  • 3.5+ GPA.

  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

  • Preferred: 2+ years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) work experience.

If you're a motivated business major eager for meaningful, paid experience that builds real skills, offers mentorship from an entrepreneur-owner, and positions you for long-term success in management or operations—apply today!
