Job description

Position Summary

The primary responsibilities of the Operations Supervisor include directing job assignments and providing technical hands-on leadership to the production and shipping staff. This position is responsible for conveying a professional attitude towards employees while recognizing the responsibility to meet production and shipping schedules and customer commitments. Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Operations Supervisor’s main tasks are to:

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Oversee and maintain safety practices in accordance with safe operations and in compliance with company policies.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Develop employee skills.
  • Supervise and assist in the training of production and shipping processes.
  • Provide training guidance and coaching to employees in a consistent and constructive manner.
  • Develop new procedures as necessary to ensure consistent performance.
  • Communicate shift activity to personnel and keep them informed of changes to equipment, processes, and materials.
  • Participate in the planning of the production and shipping schedule.
  • Allocate resources to ensure minimum downtime and completion of scheduled activities in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Prioritize and manage the workload to ensure assignments address the objectives for the day.
  • Monitor the efficiency and quality of all production and logistics jobs.
  • Review goals of the production lines daily, as well as shipping goals daily. Report issues preventing obtainment of production and shipping goals. Report findings.
  • Assist in troubleshooting production jobs and shipping orders, incident/accident and customer complaint investigations.
  • Review production records for completion and accuracy.
  • Review and approve timesheets for production and shipping personnel. Control costs through effective manpower management.
  • Maintain inventory and replenishment for all production and shipping supplies.
  • Ensure team members have the necessary resources and equipment to conduct operations safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of inventory, and proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Perform all normal supervisory functions including hiring, training, appraisals, counseling, and discipline.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and communicate information to Management.
  • Ensure smooth and adequate flow of information within the company to facilitate other business operations.
  • Manage employee conduct or performance problems in a manner consistent with company policies to ensure workforce productivity and retention.
  • Work cooperatively across all aspects of operations to meet quality, EHS&S policies, and objectives to meet customer needs.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Operations Manager.

  • Knowledge and Skills:
  • High School Graduate or GED desired but not required.
  • Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years Production, Packaging, Logistics, or Petrochemical experience.
  • Experience in leadership, supervising and/or management.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with hazardous materials.
