Position Overview:
Belcan is seeking a Operations Engineer to support a leading manufacturer of custom capital equipment and automated machinery.
This role serves as the technical and commercial liaison between customers, sales, engineering, manufacturing, and project teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background combined with experience in cost estimating, proposal development, and customer-facing technical support.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer or technical professional who enjoys working on the business side of engineering and translating customer requirements into practical equipment solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise and support to sales teams and customers regarding new equipment and modernization opportunities.
- Review customer RFQs and specifications to determine appropriate machine configurations and solutions.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing to develop concepts and cost estimates for custom equipment.
- Prepare cost/pricing worksheets and obtain internal approval for budgetary and firm proposals.
- Develop technical and commercial proposals for new equipment and modernization projects.
Identify and communicate project risks.
- Coordinate engineering review of customer specifications and custom requirements.
- Maintain CRM records and update proposal templates, pricing tools, and cost worksheets.
- Prepare order documentation upon receipt of customer purchase orders and facilitate project handoff to Project Management.
- Prepare order acknowledgement letters and support post-award customer communication.
- Support initiatives to improve proposal turnaround times and streamline the transition from order receipt to project kickoff.
- Travel to customer locations in support of sales activities and technical discussions.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience supporting capital equipment, industrial machinery, automation systems, packaging equipment, or related industries.
- Experience with cost estimating, proposal development, quotations, or technical sales support.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Strong customer-facing and communication skills.
- Experience collaborating across Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, and Project teams.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Understanding of commercial terms and customer contract requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with packaging equipment or packaging machinery.
- Experience supporting custom machinery or automated equipment.
- Familiarity with CRM systems such as Microsoft Dynamics.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP.
- Working knowledge of CAD platforms such as SolidWorks or Creo.
