Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
WUNC Radio provides quality news, information and entertainment programming to a broad listening audience that includes North Carolina, the United States and the world. WUNC serves North Carolinians from Greensboro to the Outer Banks through a network of ten stations.
Position Summary
The Broadcast Operations Assistant will work alongside WUNC's operations and programming staff members to ensure that shows, underwriting and promotions air over the broadcast signal as forecast on the station program log.
The position will include the following specific duties:
  • The Broadcast Operations Assistant will work with the station underwriting team to assign underwriting credits using Visual Traffic (VT) to the daily program log. This person will also coordinate with the underwriting team on airchecks as well as reconcile the daily program log to verify that credits and breaks aired as written on the log.
  • The Broadcast Operations Assistant will build and maintain show/daily templates in both VT and Wide Orbit, the stations automation and playback system. This person will also oversee acquisition and scheduling of new programs from Content Depot and PRX Exchange. This candidate will also manage on screen metadata entry using Rapid.
  • The Broadcast Operations Assistant will record evening and weekend automation as well as coordinate with on-air hosts regarding log and program changes. This person will also fill in as an on-air host as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience related to the area of assignment in a broadcast television, radio and emerging media environment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Management Preferences
  • Experience in the basics of on-air operations.
  • Familiarity with Visual Traffic or Wide Orbit.
  • Demonstrated skill or experience as an on-air host.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan to meet deadlines working with materials from a variety of sources and collaborators.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues effectively and collaboratively.
