Job overview and responsibilities
The Technical Operations Analytics team is looking for a passionate Senior Analyst to turn data into information and information into insights to drive business decisions. The group strives to get the right work done on the right aircraft at the right location at the right time. To do this, we partner with business experts to pursue analytical opportunities within maintenance planning, supply chain, aircraft engineering, maintenance execution, and maintenance programs, among other areas. We are seeking creative, driven, and detail-oriented individuals who enjoy tackling complex problems quantitatively. Individuals who have a desire to improve the performance of United's fleet and maintenance operation are encouraged to apply. This role requires not only analytics skills, but also strategic thinking and strong internal/external client relationships. High-level responsibilities of the role include:
  • Explore and mine data, identify key issues, apply rigorous statistical analysis, and present findings with our stakeholders and organizational leaders
  • Extract data from a variety of sources for use in analysis and models; complete ad-hoc reporting and data analysis
  • Review existing reports, dashboards, and performance indicators to modify, enhance, and develop new reports
  • Develop statistical models to improve forecasts, labor efficiency, operational metrics, financial performance, etc.
  • Encourage development and sharing of internal best practices and foster collaboration with internal and external teams

Qualifications
What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field like Math, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • At least 3+ year of work experience in analytics
  • Proven comfort and an intellectual curiosity for working with large sets of data with attention to detail and accuracy, and pulling in relevant team members to address identified - and sometimes undiscovered - needs
  • Knowledge of predictive modeling, test design, relational database structures, and database querying
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in collecting, manipulating, and analyzing complex and high-volume data from various sources to highlight patterns and relationships
  • Experience in building presentations for senior leadership
  • Query relational databases using SQL (Teradata, Microsoft, Oracle, MySQL, etc.)
  • Transform and model data in a quantitative analysis software package or language (Python, R, SAS, etc)
  • Experience using data visualization tools (ie. PowerBI, Spotfire, Tableau, ggplot2, etc.)
  • Work autonomously to learn from subject matter experts, identify gaps in data, and generate quantitative solutions to problems
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

  • Master's degree in a quantitative field like Math, Statistics, Operations
  • At least 1 years of Airline experience preferred
  • Basic programming skills for web scraping and experience of working with non-structured data
  • Understanding of airline maintenance operations
