Job description

THE ROLE: Where design thinking meets production code.

Promega is looking for a Front-End Designer & Developer who thrives at the intersection of craft and engineering. You'll shape the digital experiences researchers interact with every day — translating brand intent into intuitive, accessible, beautifully built interfaces across promega.com and our broader network of affiliated sites.

This isn't a role for someone who only wants to build, or someone who only wants to design. The ideal candidate moves naturally between both, comfortable in Figma and equally comfortable pushing pixel-perfect, production-ready code. You'll be a critical bridge between our brand and design team and front-end engineering, helping to steward and evolve Promega's front-end design solutions as our web platform grows.

You'll be joining a team that's actively investing in AI-powered web capabilities. If you're curious about what modern web development looks like when AI is part of the workflow, not a replacement for skill, this is that team.

What You'll Do

Apply today and include a portfolio link. We want to see both the design thinking and the code behind it.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintain, update, and enhance CMS and we web solutions for Promega-affiliated sites, and provide development/design support for Promega.com as needed.

2. Develop front-end features and components using modern HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks such as React.

3. Build and refine templates, page layouts, and UI elements within content management systems such as WordPress and CraftCMS.

4. Create user interface designs, wireframes, and prototypes that support intuitive and positive user experiences.

5. Collaborate with internal partners to design and develop new content, pages, and user experiences that align with organizational objectives.

6. Ensure websites follow accessibility standards, performance best practices, and responsive design principles.

7. Troubleshoot front-end issues, coordinate resolutions, and implement improvements based on analytics and stakeholder feedback.

8. Apply strategic thinking to evaluate stakeholder requests, translate them into clear, actionable, user-centered solutions, and work independently to move projects from concept to execution.

9. Contribute to the evolution and consistency of design systems across supported sites.

10. Stay current with emerging web technologies, design trends, and AI-powered tools, and proactively incorporate them to improve development efficiency, user experience, and the overall quality of digital deliverables.

11. Demonstrates inclusion through their own words and actions and is accountable for a safe workspace. Acts with kindness, curiosity and respect for others.

12. Embracing and being open to incorporating Promega’s 6 Emotional & Social Intelligence (ESI) core principles in daily work.

13. Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.

What You Bring

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

1. 4–6+ years of professional experience in front-end development and UI/UX design.

2. Front-end development: HTML5, CSS3/Sass, JavaScript, and frameworks React and Tailwind.

3. CMS platforms: WordPress, CraftCMS, Sitecore or equivalent.

4. Design tools: Figma, including design tokens, variables, and component libraries.

5. Design system work: Experience maintaining and contributing to a shared component ecosystem.

6. UX fundamentals: Wireframing, prototyping, accessibility, responsive design.

7. Cross-functional collaboration: Comfortable working across design, dev, brand, and marketing teams.

8. Strong portfolio: Portfolio of design and development experience.

We're also interested in candidates with:

1. Web performance optimization and GEO/SEO knowledge.

2. Experience with analytics platforms such as GA4.

3. A strong visual design background that influences technical decisions, not just aesthetics.
