The 321 rule in video editing suggests that a video should have no more than three minutes in length, contain no more than two main ideas or themes, and include only one call to action. This guideline helps editors create concise, engaging content that maintains viewer interest. It is often used in online video editing to optimize viewer retention and message clarity.

Video Editing Intern

Base Power Company

Austin, TX โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Posted 3 days ago

Job description

About Base
Base is America's next-generation power company. We're rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization-electricity-by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today's fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.
About the Role
At Base, we believe video is one of the most powerful ways to explain who we are and what we do. Our product lives on the homes of real people, and video allows us to capture those moments, tell their stories, and make the complex world of energy feel human and relatable. From paid social ads to organic content, video is how we bring Base to life and connect with our community.
We're looking for a sharp, fast-moving video editing intern to join our creative team. This role sits at the intersection of content production and digital marketing - you'll take raw footage and a brief, and turn it into polished ads, social clips, and brand content that performs. The right candidate is organized, understands the difference between paid and organic content, and isn't afraid to move quickly.
What You'll Do
  • Edit video content for paid social campaigns (Meta, TikTok, YouTube) as well as organic channels, adapting tone and format to match each platform's requirements.
  • Take a brief and raw footage and turn around polished, on-brand edits quickly and professionally.
  • Help build out and maintain our digital asset management system as we migrate to Air - organizing footage, project files, templates, and exports so the team can find what they need.
  • Shoot basic supplemental video when needed, primarily on iPhone, to fill gaps in existing footage.
  • Apply color correction, audio cleanup, and basic motion graphics to deliver work that meets a professional standard.
  • Use AI tools to speed up workflows: transcription, rough cuts, asset tagging, captioning, or whatever makes the work better and faster.
  • Collaborate with the creative and marketing teams to understand campaign goals, iterate on feedback, and hit deadlines.
  • Stay current on social media trends, ad formats, and editing techniques that could improve Base's content.

What You'll Bring
  • A portfolio or reel that shows clean, purposeful editing whether from school, freelance, or personal projects.
  • Understanding of paid social media content: what makes an ad stop the scroll, how hooks work, how to structure a video for conversion vs. awareness.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro at minimum; After Effects and Photoshop are a plus).
  • Familiarity with digital asset management. You know how to name files, build folder structures, and keep a library usable at scale. Experience with Air or similar DAM platforms is a bonus.
  • Ability to shoot basic video on iPhone, DSLR or mirrorless cameras.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift and turnaround times are tight.
  • Eagerness to learn, take feedback, and collaborate with a cross-functional team.

About this Team
Most people don't think about where their power comes from until it's gone. The design team and video production specifically exists to change that. We use visual storytelling to explain how Base's battery systems work in a way that's clear, accurate, and worth watching. Our primary channels are long-form content on YouTube and short-form on Meta ads, and the challenge is real: take a complicated, unfamiliar product and make it feel simple and interesting without drifting off-brand. If you want to sharpen your skills in a place where the content actually has to work, not just look good this is the team.
Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.
Our Values
  • First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.
  • Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.
  • Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.
  • Everyone's an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.
  • Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.
  • Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we're creating. We work in-person. It's not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.
  • Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.
Do the best work of your life at Base.
