Job Summary

Adjunct faculty members serve multiple roles as teachers, mentors, and colleagues. The Machining Instructor is expected to excel in classroom and lab instruction, providing students with fundamental and advanced skills in manual machining. This position focuses on preparing students for careers in manufacturing and machining by combining theoretical instruction with hands-on shop experience.


Nature of Work

Adjunct faculty are responsible for teaching an area of expertise within a specific period. The Machining Instructor will teach entry-level and advanced concepts of manual machining, including the safe setup and operation of equipment such as lathes, mills, drill presses, and grinders. Instruction includes blueprint reading, measurement techniques, tolerances, and machining processes that align with industry standards. The instructor is responsible for developing instructional content, maintaining safe laboratory conditions, and guiding students toward successful program completion and workforce readiness.

Performs other functions as required or assigned. Also complies with all Policies and Standards.
Summary of Core Responsibilities:
Possess thorough and accurate knowledge of machining theory, techniques, and safety procedures.
Develop and update instructional materials, syllabi, and lesson plans tailored to machining.
Teach classroom and lab sessions that engage and challenge students to apply machining principles
in practical settings.
Demonstrate safe setup, operation, and maintenance of manual machining equipment.
Evaluate student performance, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate academic
records.
Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
Meet classes as scheduled and remain accessible to students via office hours, phone, or email.
Ensure adherence to safety and industry best practices in all instructional activities.
Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and effective communication.
Fulfill all expectations of adjunct faculty members.
Provides instruction in manual machining and related subjects.
Ensures students develop technical skills, safety practices, and work habits appropriate to modern
machine shops.
Complies with all college and departmental policies and standards.
Skills:
Demonstrated proficiency in manual machining operations (lathe, milling, drilling, grinding,
measurement).
Knowledge of machining mathematics, blueprint reading, precision measuring tools, and tolerancing.
Ability to integrate safety practices, OSHA standards, and industry procedures into instruction.

Familiarity with current teaching methods, trends, and technology for onsite instruction; online
teaching skills desirable.


Education

Associate's degree or Equivalent - Machine Tool Technology, Manufacturing, or related field - Required


Experience

In addition to the knowledge/education, the following related work experience is typically required for this position. An equivalent combination of education and recent, related experience may be acceptable.


Industry Experience - Minimum of 3 years of recent, relevant manual machining experience in industry or teaching - Required


Teaching Experience - Prior experience teaching or training in machining, manufacturing, or a related technical field - Preferred
