Job description

ESL Distance Learning Associate Language Instructor will assist an ongoing requirement for live virtual Distance Learning (DL) English as a Second Language (ESL), English as a Foreign Language (EFL), and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) instruction and language program support services. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to: Provide virtual language instruction to improve English language proficiency skills across the modalities of Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing (L/R/S/W) as measured by the English Comprehension Level (ECL) test, Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) scale, or other standardized assessments. Provide virtual instruction to an extremely diverse student body from over 100 countries; students range in age from 18 to over 60, include Military personnel with different levels of rankings and senior civilian executive service equivalent members, and come from varying cultural and religious backgrounds.

Provide instruction based on designated Program of Instruction (POI). Develop lesson plans or other learning material, as required, by selecting from and adapting instructor texts, guides, and/or commercial texts or developing unique instructional content to meet the specific linguistic or pedagogical needs of students. Possess the ability to assess, develop a lesson plan, and deliver instruction based on student needs and levels varying from ILR 0+ to 3+.

Review, correct, and grade assignments; discuss and provide feedback. Counsel students virtually and make recommendations for remedial and enrichment training based on observation, assessment, and evaluations. Maintain a positive and professional virtual learning environment, telephonic environment, and chat message environment; address student behavior/attendance concerns with site lead, and utilize designated materials mentioned in POI and other products approved by GOVT to support instruction.

Establish learning environment conducive to adult ESL/EFL/ESP distance learning using modern communicative and blended-learning methodologies. Teach ESL/EFL/ESP from basic elementary to advanced English to include preparation for graduate level college courses, preparation for U.S. war colleges, and over 24 specialty areas such as aviation, medical, explosive ordnance disposal

Collaborate with Site Lead, POI analyst, or Language Instructional Developer to address student and curriculum gaps. Virtual instruction may be recorded for training purposes.Required Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen

Native or near-native proficiency in English with strong understanding of English grammar, usage, and American culture. Experience in providing various levels of ESL/EFL/ESP instruction through a virtual environment. Understanding of diverse cultural, social, and religious backgrounds of international military students.

Experience in creating blended learning lessons and the ability to tailor existing materials to fit the customer's needs and expectations. Instructor must have access to a Windows computer, webcam, headset with a microphone, a phone or smart tablet, and a high-speed internet connection. Basic Education Requirement: To qualify for this ESL Distance Learning Instructor position you must meet one of the BASIC Educational Requirements: A.

Degree: Successful completion of a four-year degree that included or was supplemented by a major field in education or 24 semester hours (or equivalent) of specific course work in English as a Second Language (ESL), English as a Foreign Language (EFL), Linguistics, Foreign Languages, or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or in a subject matter appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject matter field appropriate to the position such as English as a Second Language (ESL); English as a Foreign Language (EFL); Linguistics, Foreign Languages, or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL); plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.

Desired Qualifications: Experience using online platforms, such as CL-150, Blackboard, Canvas, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams. Bachelor's Degree in Education, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or related field. Master's Degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Your qualifications will be evaluated based on your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of English Second Language, English Foreign Language and English Specific Purposes (ESL/EFL/ESP) instruction and knowledge of the English language and American culture. Knowledge of instructional design and materials development for distance learning environments. Knowledge of student assessment techniques and objectives to include test and measurement principles appropriate for virtual instruction.

Skill in constructively evaluating and critiquing student performance in a virtual environment. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing through virtual platforms. Ability to work harmoniously with students and organizational personnel remotely and ability to analyze, evaluate, and accomplish special training studies and projects.
