Job Title: Manager - Office of Indigent Defense

Annual Salary: $75,197.00 - $83,132.00

Shift Hours: Monday-Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm)
Purpose of this Position:
The Office of Indigent Defense Administrator is the lead administrative professional for the Montgomery Office of Indigent Defense that supports Montgomery County Criminal District Courts and Criminal County Courts at Law.
Under the supervision of the designated Criminal Court Judge, as elected by the Board of Criminal Judges (BOCJ), the Administrator provides strong leadership, vision, strategies and processes to direct and oversee indigent defense support to court operations. The Administrator will develop and implement strategic plans to achieve the goals and objectives of the (BOCJ).

Education, Experience and Skill Requirements:
  • Requires a college degree.
  • Requires 5 or more years of court experience.
  • Bilingual in Spanish - preferred.
  • Requires intermediate to advanced word processing, spreadsheet, and/or other type of computer software experience.
  • Must have the ability to work in person, not remote.

Primary Job Duties:
  • Manage the scheduling, coordinating, and supervision of FT or PT employees of OID, assist in budget, payroll, employment process, and purchasing decisions.
  • Report to designated criminal court judges on matters of usefulness and interest to the judiciary to inform their administrative decision-making.
  • Maintaining calendars for the various overflow courtrooms, the On Call Calendar, drafting minutes for criminal court judge meetings.
  • Meeting with Criminal Judges, District and County Clerks, and all stakeholders and other experts for information gathering, information sharing, and strategic planning.
  • Maintain the CCL and District Court Wheels, managing and advising on the contract defender system for felony and misdemeanor cases.
  • Drafting reports using data gathered from CMS, the State OCA, the Clerks and other sources, and presenting them in a readable and easy to understand format.
  • Creating and inputting information into a variety of calendars that contribute to judicial organization, drafting and submitting minutes for an official record of the criminal court judges.
  • Setting up, coordinating and attending various meetings with various configurations may involve creating the agenda for the meeting, may involve creating rough notes of a meeting if minutes are not required.
  • Accepting and submitting completed criminal appointments, creating and managing reporting requirements for the contract defender system.
  • Use the Finance System to pay various invoices received by the courts to be paid out of special revenue funds, transferring funds as necessary to cover all expenditures.
  • Editing information and adding new reports for public review as directed by the Board of Judges, as well as, adding new reports to and curating the X-Drive.
  • Drafting correspondence, emails, answering telephone calls, serving on various committees and workgroups.
  • Complete ad HOC jobs that not listed above.

After receiving a conditional offer of employment, applicant must pass a drug screen (1/2 cost = $20.00, responsibility of applicant) and may need a physical agility test (1/2 cost = $22.50, responsibility of applicant) before becoming an employee of Montgomery County.
