Job Description:
Summary:
The On-Call Specialist is responsible for urine drug screen collections and alcohol screening of patients for Business Health and Occupational Medicine. The primary responsibility will be responding to after-hours calls. The Specialist will work under the supervision of the Business Health Medical Director or their licensed clinical designee. The Specialist will be trained and certified in the basic knowledge of drug/ alcohol/ tobacco collection screening and procedures to demonstrate skills and techniques of good patient care. In addition, the specialist will be trained in the collection of biometric data, venipuncture, use of LDX/Cholestech machine. The duties and expectations will ensure a standard of patient care. This position will document all collections and report directly with the designated employer representative for rapid testing of drugs and alcohol and/or provide documentation of collection for send out testing to the designated representative. This position may be required to provide on-site services to companies such as Breath Alcohol Testing, Urine Drug Screens, and other health and wellness services (to include biometrics, venipunctures, and vaccine administration) as scheduled by the Business Health Scheduling Coordinator. Must develop thorough understanding of the scientific principles used in diagnostic testing to recognize deviations in expected values. Must ensure the validity and accuracy of test results. Analyze technical problems and make necessary corrections to achieve quality results. The On-Call Specialist is responsible to adhere and follow mandated procedures and guidelines for multiple local, state, and federal agencies. This individual is entrusted with confidential medical information. Must have knowledge of medical laboratory techniques, equipment, and instrumentation. A high degree of cooperation, consideration and sensitivity is essential; strict ethical and confidentiality guidelines will be used.
Must be able to make decisions and understand DOT Guidelines. Must be certified in DOT Urine Drug Screen Collections and Breath Alcohol Collections. (Training and certification are available through Ballad Health Occupational Medicine). Must show proficiency in UDS Collections performed in house with no errors. Good communication skills are necessary for patient relationships. Must have knowledge of medical laboratory techniques, equipment, and instrumentation. Must show proficiency of clinical competencies (to include biometrics, venipunctures, LDX/Cholestech).
Licenses and Certifications:
Preferred completion of a medical assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education (ABHES) and have successfully passed the Certification Exam from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or from the American Medical Technologists (AMT) as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
Preferred Valid and active Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) licensure. CPR required.
