Job description

The Opportunity:

Beach Security is responsible for providing security in and around the fill area to keep unauthorized persons from dredging operations. The Beach Security will report to the Fill foreman or Assistant Fill Foreman. The hours are typically Monday- Sunday 12 hour shifts candidates either work the day shift or night shift. The work shifts may vary based upon the amount of security officers hired per site. The person in this role must be flexible.  This is a temporary project-based position. We are currently seeking a Beach Security Officer for the following location near Delray Beach, FL 33483.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 

  • Maintain a sentry post at the entrance to the construction area to keep unauthorized persons from entering the active construction zone  
  • Perform escort duties for bulldozer or wheel loader when equipment is being operated outside the designated construction area and members of the public are present. Tasks may be performed by walking or by use of Utility Vehicle 
  • Perform pipe security check by walking or driving the shorepipe to identify any security or safety concerns as they relate to the general public. Examples include:  
    1. Identifying areas where the public is not using crossover 
    2. Identifying areas where the shorepipe is leaking and may cause safety hazard to the public 
  • Periodically the employee will be required to spend 2-3 days watching safety training videos prudent to their job duties  
  • May be assigned to other duties 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be capable and possess the ability to walk on uneven surfaces (e.g., beach sand). 
  • Must be capable of performing escort duties for the bulldozer or wheel loader when equipment is being operated outside the designated construction area and members of the public are present. (Tasks may be performed by walking or driving) 
  • Must have good communications skills; both verbal & written 
  • Must have solid interpersonal skills to interact with the public 
  • Candidates will need their own steel toed boots (non-billable to GLDD); GLDD will provide the remaining PPE equipment. 
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work
  • High School Diploma or equivalent degree. 
  • Valid State driver’s license
