Job description

Position Overview

VIP Systems, Inc. is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Low Voltage Estimator to join our growing team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for a wide range of low voltage and integrated technology systems.

The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of structured cabling, fiber optics, electronic security, fire alarm, audio-visual, and related systems. You will work closely with our sales, engineering, and project management teams to develop winning proposals while ensuring projects are accurately scoped and positioned for successful execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review RFPs, construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope and requirements.
  • Perform detailed material and labor take-offs for low voltage systems, including structured cabling, fiber optics, CCTV, access control, fire alarm, nurse call, and audio-visual systems.
  • Solicit and evaluate pricing from manufacturers, distributors, and subcontractors to develop competitive bids.
  • Prepare comprehensive project estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor costs, overhead, and profit.
  • Develop clear, accurate, and professional bid proposals that meet customer requirements and submission deadlines.
  • Identify project risks, scope gaps, construct-ability issues, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and customer discussions as required.
  • Collaborate with sales and engineering teams throughout the estimating process.
  • Conduct project hand-off meetings with Project Management and Engineering following successful contract awards.
  • Maintain organized estimating files, pricing databases, and historical cost information to improve estimating accuracy

RequirementsQualifications
Required
  • 3-5+ years of estimating, project management, or field experience in the low voltage, telecommunications, or electronic security industry.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial low voltage systems, including:
    • Structured Cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, Fiber Optics)
    • CCTV / Video Surveillance
    • Access Control
    • Fire Alarm
    • Nurse Call
    • Audio-Visual (AV)
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and technology drawings and specifications.
  • Experience preparing detailed material take-offs and labor estimates.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with estimating and digital take-off software such as Bluebeam Revu, Accubid, ConEst, McCormick, or similar platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), BICSI standards, and applicable local building codes.
  • BICSI RCDD certification.
  • Manufacturer certifications related to access control, CCTV, fire alarm, or structured cabling.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
