Director of Operations

The Director of Operations will serve as the firm’s most senior operational leader. This position is hybrid/on-site and can be based in Lansing, Michigan, Chicago or Charlotte, NC. The role is responsible for building and leading the operational infrastructure that enables the firm to scale efficiently while maintaining exceptional client service, strong compliance standards, and operational excellence. The role reports directly to the CEO and leads the firm’s operations, client service, accounting and HR functions.


This role develops the operational framework to support the firm’s strategy and is tasked with translating that strategy into clear processes, scalable systems, and accountable teams. Critical to the success of the role is ownership of operational initiatives so that members of the leadership team and advisors can focus on growth, client relationships, and strategic initiatives.

Core Areas of Responsibility


The Director of Operations will lead and oversee:

  • Firm Operations – ensuring consistent, efficient operational processes across departments
  • Strategic Execution – translating firm-wide priorities into operational plans and measurable outcomes
  • Service & Sales Infrastructure – improving new client onboarding, service workflows, and client experience
  • Technology & Systems – optimizing CRM, performance reporting, portfolio management, trading technology, and integrated platforms across departments including managing the firm’s relationship with its fractional Chief Information Officer
  • Compliance Support & Risk Controls – maintaining operational standards that support regulatory requirements
  • Process Improvement & Scaling – standardizing workflows and eliminating inefficiencies
  • Operations Team Leadership – developing and managing the firm’s operations, client service, accounting and HR functions.


A successful Director of Operations will:

  • Establish clear operational ownership and accountability across teams
  • Improve process consistency and service standards firm-wide
  • Reduce operational friction and cycle times in key workflows
  • Manage and oversee implementation of technology and AI efficiencies that increase firm capacity
  • Build scalable operational infrastructure to support future growth
  • Strengthen reporting, KPIs, and operational decision-making
  • Implement operational efficiencies that increase margin
  • Supervise the accounting team, through the corporate controller, to insure timely month-end close, development of the budget, increase efficiencies, and production of variance reports
  • Manage all elements of HR Operations including recruiting, employee review processes, insurance and payroll processes, and the HRIS.
  • Lead Risk Management intiatives for the firm



Requirements:

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 7–10+ years of operational leadership experience in wealth management or financial services
  • Proven ability to scale operations in a growing organization
  • Experience managing teams, operational systems, and cross-department initiatives
  • Strong strategic thinking combined with hands-on execution
  • Skilled at building processes, improving efficiency, and leading teams
  • Can operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with high levels of accountability
