Job Summary
Maintains sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots asneeded by performing skilled concrete repair and upkeep tasks. Also maintains roads with asphaltrepair. This position will requireoperating a dump truck and other heavy equipment. This position will assist thegrounds department in maintaining streets and parking lots of leaves anddebris. This position is consideredessential personnel and may require storm duty.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Coordinates and participates in construction projects such as grading; setting metal and wood forms for curbs and gutters in streets and parking lot construction; setting forms for walks, drives, and patios, and pouring and finishing concrete on curbs, gutters, driveways, parking lots, and floor slabs.
  2. Services, performs preventative maintenance, and repairs on maintenance equipment to include tractors, back hoes, trucks, and forklifts and keeps equipment in excellent condition mechanically and clean in appearance.
  3. Operates other mechanical devices on campus such as concrete saw, concrete grinder, wacker packer, post hole auger, pumps, jack hammer, compressors, and chainsaws.
  4. Operates sweepers and blowers to cleans streets, curbs, gutters, storm drains, and parking lots of leaves and debris.
  5. Installing street sign posts, posts and chains, and concrete parking bumpers around campus.
  6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum QualificationsHighschool diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year relatedexperience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education andexperience. Valid Driver's License andCommercial Class D License.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, University policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of construction maintenance, repair, and operation of light and heavy equipment, including vehicles.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of highways and roads.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle operations, traffic rules and regulations, and maintenance of motor vehicles.
  • Ability to drive dump truck, tractors, sweepers, carts and university truck.
  • Ability to pick up tires, parts, vehicles, carts, etc. from dealerships and vendors.
  • Ability to repair potholes and roads using hot and cold patches of asphalt.
  • Skill in the use of standard office equipment and software.
  • Skill in the determining the kind of tools and equipment and the use of standard tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Skill in performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Skill in managing ones' own time.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situation
