What does an occupational therapy professor do?

An Occupational Therapy Professor teaches students about the principles and practices of occupational therapy at colleges or universities. They design and deliver courses, supervise clinical experiences, conduct research, and mentor students pursuing careers in occupational therapy. Additionally, they often contribute to the development of academic programs and stay updated with advances in the field to ensure their teaching reflects current best practices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an occupational therapy professor?

To thrive as an Occupational Therapy Professor, you need advanced knowledge in occupational therapy, a doctoral degree (such as a PhD or OTD), and experience in clinical practice or research. Familiarity with educational technologies, curriculum development software, and accreditation standards is typically required. These competencies ensure effective teaching, academic leadership, and the advancement of occupational therapy education.

What are the common challenges faced by occupational therapy professors in balancing teaching, research, and clinical responsibilities?
