The Impact you will have in this role:
The Director of Systems Engineering for Observability area is a senior technology leader responsible for engineering delivery, platform reliability, and operational excellence of the enterprise observability ecosystem. This role leads teams responsible for designing, building, integrating, and operating observability capabilities across applications, infrastructure, cloud, and data platforms. Responsible for includes partnering closely with Architecture, SRE, Application Engineering, Operations, Cyber, and Product teams to ensure observability is engineered by default, aligned to enterprise standards, and delivers measurable improvements in resiliency, incident detection, and time to resolution.
Your Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead multiple systems engineering teams responsible for observability tooling, integrations, telemetry pipelines, dashboards, and alerting capabilities across the enterprise.
  • Own the engineering lifecycle for observability capabilities, including design, build, automation, CI/CD integration, testing, release, and production support.
  • Ensure observability solutions are scalable, resilient, secure, and cloud-ready, supporting both legacy and modernized platforms.
  • Platform Ownership & Reliability
  • Act as the engineering owner for core observability platforms (e.g., metrics, logs, traces, alerting, visualization), ensuring high availability, performance, and cost efficiency.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards for telemetry instrumentation, onboarding, alert quality, and dashboard design.
  • Partner with SRE, Event & Incident Management, and Operations teams to improve MTTD, MTTE, and MTTR through actionable alerts and end-to-end visibility.
  • Use observability insights to proactively identify systemic risks, performance degradation, and capacity issues before client impact.
  • Support major incident analysis and continuous improvement through observability-driven RCA and post-incident reviews.
  • Drive automation-first engineering, including automated onboarding, alert lifecycle management, telemetry quality checks, and self-service capabilities.
  • Enable Open Telemetry-based instrumentation and modern observability patterns across new and modernizing applications.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI/ML and AIOps capabilities to reduce noise, detect anomalies, and enable predictive insights.
  • Provide clear, outcome-focused updates to executive leadership on platform health, risks, delivery progress, and value realization.
  • Build, mentor, and retain high-performing systems engineering teams across onshore and offshore models.
  • Set clear goals, accountability, and career development paths aligned to modern engineering and SRE practices.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, craftsmanship, and operational accountability.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience

Talents Needed for Success:
  • Deep hands-on experience with observability platforms (e.g., Grafana, Splunk, Dynatrace, Datadog, OpenText, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud platforms, Kubernetes/OpenShift, networking, and enterprise infrastructure.
  • Proven experience scaling platform engineering teams and delivering enterprise-wide capabilities.
  • Experience operating in regulated, mission-critical environments with high reliability and resiliency expectations.
  • Strong finance acumen, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Excellent leadership and project management skills, with a track record of successfully driving large-scale transformation initiatives.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics and drive change.
  • Knowledge of DTCCs businesses and capital markets domains.
