This is an Early/ Head Start Program position with the DC37 Local 95 Union
Summary
The Teacher is responsible for the creation of a responsive, age-appropriate experience that fosters the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth of the children. The Teacher directs the classroom professionally and respectfully while creating a safe nurturing environment focusing on learning.
Essential Functions:
  • Perform this position's functions with a strong understanding of the Head Start Program Performance Standards and local, state, and other federal guidelines.
  • Implement a curriculum adhering to Early Childhood best practices as defined by National Education for Young Children (NAEYC), NYS (New York State) Quality Rating and Improvement System, NYS Common Core, NYS Early Learning Framework, and Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (if applicable).
  • Maintain a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child, including observations, developmental and social emotional assessments.
  • Conduct home visits and parent conferences to discuss the child's individual development and progress.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment. Assure that classroom equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored;
  • Use the playground as an extension of the classroom; assure that the playground is safe;
  • Conduct daily health checklists and monthly environmental checklists.
  • Integrate the implementation of children's I.E.P. (Individual Education Plan) or I.F.S.P. (Individual Family Service Plan) into lesson plans for individualized outcomes.
  • Perform other duties, as may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the classroom and carries out responsibilities in accordance with the federal, state, locals' requirements as well as agency policies and applicable laws.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Based on classroom assignments. Study Plan eligible with the following requirements:

    • 3-year-old class: 90 college credits with a study plan that is acceptable to the DOHMH leading to an Early Childhood degree with Early Childhood Certification (B-Grade 2) in required timeline
    • 4-year-old class: BA in ECE or related field or study plan that is acceptable to the DOHMH leading to an Early Childhood degree with Early Childhood Certification (B-Grade 2) within 3 years
  • 1 year of classroom experience teaching children up to 3rd grade if the individual has a Bachelor's degree in any other subject area
  • NYS licensed or approved study plan teacher in accordance with the NYC Department of Health regulations which include a plan to meet NYS certification requirements within 3-7 years.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to plan and carry out assignments independently.
  • Ability to prioritize, adhere to timelines and multi-task

Qualifications Preferred:
  • Master's degree in early childhood education or related field with NYS Early Childhood certification
  • Will support families that predominantly speak Spanish or Bengali and others, may be required depending on client needs.

Compensation:
Uncertified Teacher - $23.05 - $30.05/ hr
Certified Teacher - $38.99 to $43.83/ hr
Newly hired Teacher's will be eligible for a $3,000 Sign on bonus.
Masters Certified Teachers may be eligible for an additional $1,200.
Additional compensation could be applied if candidates has a CDA.
