Role Summary

This is a hands-on, full development lifecycle lead role which provides an opportunity to tackle sophisticated business, logic, data and technical challenges. As the leader of your engineering team, you will be required to think creatively and bring groundbreaking technology in-house. We will expect you to be agile / to lead / to think outside the box. The Technology Development Center is focused on developing the firm's next-generation data distribution platform, aiming to seamlessly deliver real-time and on-demand investment data to a global network of distributed trading and research platforms. We leverage cutting-edge paradigms such as cloud computing, lightweight microservices, and distributed and non-relational databases to deliver robust, scalable, and globally distributed software services.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to all parts of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including design, development, and testing.
  • Develop technical solutions following best practices
  • Employ automated testing and ensure your work is tested in an automated and repeatable manner.
  • Identify and address technical debt.
  • Work with existing data models and schemas, suggesting changes and improvements as necessary.
  • Demonstrate strong logic and reasoning capabilities.
  • Deliver well-defined work items, clarifying requirements when necessary through questions and proposals.
  • Manages a development team to deliver projects which achieve target outcomes
  • You'll demonstrates exceptional hands-on capability to drive components to delivery
  • Apply people management skills to coach, mentor and develop engineers on the team
  • You'll assume ownership over the quality, TCO, maintainability and security of the solutions built by our team
  • Help design specific elements of the GTS Technical strategy and drive its execution within your domain of responsibility.
  • You'll identify non-obvious relationships and anomalies often overlooked by others
  • Balance strategic and pragmatic concerns when solving problems
  • You'll seek to detects and overcome issues before the broader team is aware of them
  • Provide timely feedback and coaching to individuals and teams using data to reinforce learning
  • You'll be accountable for the developing and mentoring of direct reports
  • Responsible for recruitment and performance management of associates
  • Overcome differences of opinion and drive team alignment around a specific goal or solution
  • Owns technical debt across their development team

Business Knowledge:

  • Work directly with business stakeholders.
  • Make decisions that focus on current and future business priorities, along with fiscal responsibility.
  • Translate business needs into technology solutions.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Typically a BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, with 8+ years of progressive professional development experience in an Object-Oriented language and people leadership.
  • Experience with automated delivery pipelines, agile delivery, and test-driven development.
  • In-depth knowledge of software design patterns.
  • Experience with AI and Machine Learning application development is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of cloud-native architectures (AWS, etc.) for containerized microservices and real-time systems.
  • Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced, Agile team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; capable of building and maintaining close working relationships with quantitative researchers, traders, and senior business leaders.
  • Confident communicator; able to argue points concisely and deal positively with differing views.
  • Enthusiastic about learning and results-oriented.
  • Stays current with leading technologies.
  • Demonstrates commitment to quality by implementing appropriate software using unit, integration, and acceptance testing during feature development.
  • Capable of debugging large components independently and assisting others with debugging.
  • At some levels, lead code reviews and actively participate in providing feedback on others' designs/code.
  • Perform as an expert in one or more areas of the software lifecycle (e.g., coding, testing, deployment). Oversee significant development pieces within the lifecycle.
  • Design and develop practical APIs and abstractions.
  • Manage technical debt within your software.

Preferred:

  • Experience with React and/or Angular.
  • A solid understanding of financial markets and instruments

FINRA Requirements

FINRA licenses are not required and will not be supported for this role.

Work Flexibility

This role is eligible for hybrid work, with up to three days per week from home.
