Northstar Behavioral Health is a team of professionals that specialize in medication assisted treatment through a multi-faceted programming structure for those battling opioid addiction.ย  Our integrated team of professionalโ€™s work with residents individually and in group settings. We are looking for individuals that possess the ability to counsel residents and help them to become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well and spiritually alive.

Northstar Behavioral Health has an opening for an LADC and ADC-T counselor to join our growing team. As a client advocate at Northstar Behavioral Health, you will have the opportunity to provide person-centered care in an opiate and stimulant-specific program with an energetic team. Northstar provides a large continuum of care from residential to outpatient, medical services, and mental health services in our Co-Occurring and MAT-friendly programs. The right LADC/ADC-T candidates will have a passion for helping the clients we serve, a desire for growth in the field of addiction counseling, and be part of the dynamic team of professionals working at Northstar Behavioral Health.

Job Duties and Responsibilities for LADC/ADC-T: (Essential Functions):

  1. Provide individual therapy, group therapy, case management, crisis intervention that addresses the goals established on the treatment plan.
  2. Document services provided in a weekly note, individual note, and/or information note.ย  Documentation will be completed according to NBH policies and procedures, and standards established by governing bodies.
  3. Document case activity notes and important information.
  4. Develop comprehensive treatment plans that meet the individual needs of the client.ย  Treatment plans will be completed in accordance with NBH policies and procedures, and standards established by governing bodies.
  5. Complete and document assessments in accordance with NBH policies and procedures and standards established by governing bodies.
  6. Participate in weekly case staffing meetings and supervision meetings.
  7. Provide court, Department of Corrections, and other referral sources with progress reports as requested.
  8. Work cooperatively with outside agencies.ย 
  9. Discharge duties in accordance with contracts, licensure standards, and NBH policies and procedures.
  10. Exhibits knowledge of core competencies in relation to working with co-occurring disorders through continuing education and implementing skills into all aspects of treatment.
  11. Complete other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

ย Required Skills and Experience:ย 

  • Must be licensed by the Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC/ADC-T)
  • Associates Degree with ADC-T Permit
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree
  • Must have 1 or more years providing chemical dependency counseling (supervised internship applies)
  • CPR Certification or attain within 30 days
  • Must have 2 years of freedom from chemical use problems
  • Must pass a State of Minnesota Background Check
  • Must possess a current Minnesota Driverโ€™s License with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs and other computer skills

  • Supervision of clinical staff
  • Familiar with Medicated Assisted Treatment (MAT) Model
  • Motivational Interviewing Approach
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Familiar with Procentive, Electronic Health Record System
