Technology Product Manager

Anza Mortgage Insurance Corporation

Wilmington, NC โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Posted 17 days ago

Job description

Anza MI is a fintech startup using technology and analytics to drive growth & innovation within the US mortgage market.
We are an innovative mortgage insurance provider serving mortgage banks, large financial institutions, and mortgage servicers across the nation. We partner with our clients to mitigate risk and enable homeownership through innovative insurance solutions and technology-driven service delivery. As a FinTech-forward organization, we are transforming the mortgage insurance experience through modern integrations, data-driven decisioning, and seamless B2B connectivity with the broader mortgage ecosystem.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Technology Product Manager to serve as both a day-to-day operational practitioner and a structured product contributor across our technology platform. This is a dual-responsibility role with an approximate time allocation of ~50% B2B operations & implementation and ~50% product management & business analysis. This role drives the vision, development, and delivery of technology products that support the full mortgage lifecycle-from loan origination and underwriting through servicing and claims-within a regulated mortgage insurance environment.
In the operational capacity, you will monitor live B2B transactions, resolve data mapping and communication issues, onboard new trading partners, and ensure the integrity of mission-critical data flows across EDI, XML, JSON, and API-based integrations. In the product management capacity, you will bridge the gap between business needs and the development team. Working across all delivery channels - including the B2B integration platform and the hosted UI portal - you will partner with internal business units to understand their requirements, translate those needs into well-formed user stories and epics.
The ideal candidate brings strong core product management discipline, deep familiarity with FinTech and mortgage industry practices, and working knowledge of B2B data integration and partner connectivity concepts. You will own the product roadmap, translate complex business needs into actionable requirements, and champion the delivery of scalable, compliant, and customer-centric technology solutions for our lender and servicer partners.
This is a role for someone equally comfortable debugging a malformed MISMO XML payload in the morning and running a requirements workshop with the Underwriting team in the afternoon.
What you'll do
1. Production Monitoring & Incident Response
  • Monitor daily B2B transactions - EDI, XML, JSON, flat files, and API payloads - to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely processing across all active trading partners.
  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for production issues, managing the full incident lifecycle from detection through resolution for communication failures, transmission errors, and data anomalies.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on recurring or complex issues, documenting findings and driving permanent fixes rather than temporary workarounds.
  • Maintain clear, timely communication with trading partners and internal stakeholders during active incidents.

2. Data Mapping & Translation
  • Analyze, design, and maintain data mappings between internal system formats and external standards, including:
    • EDI standards: ANSI X12 and EDIFACT
    • Mortgage standards: MISMO XML/JSON Reference Model (v3.4/v3.5+)
    • Modern formats: REST/JSON payloads, XML, and flat files
  • Use B2B translation and mapping tools to build and validate transformation logic.
  • Validate data integrity using SQL queries against source and target systems to confirm accurate field-level mapping and completeness.
  • Debug malformed payloads and schema mismatches, leveraging XML/JSON parsers and Postman or equivalent API testing tools.
  • Ensure all mappings align with the MISMO Logical Data Dictionary (LDD) and applicable GSE data delivery requirements (iLAD, ULDD, UCD).

3. Partner Onboarding & Implementation
  • Lead or support the technical onboarding of new trading partners: gathering integration requirements, configuring connections, and coordinating testing through to go-live.
  • Configure and test B2B connections using secure communication protocols: AS2, SFTP, HTTPS, and API-based endpoints.
  • Conduct Integration Testing and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for new partner connections and system enhancements, ensuring seamless go-live transitions.
  • Coordinate with partner technical teams to exchange credentials, validate connectivity, and resolve pre-production issues.
  • Maintain and update onboarding documentation, including technical specifications, communication protocol guides, and partner-specific runbooks in Confluence.
  • Support the build-out of a standardized, repeatable onboarding workflow that reduces manual effort and time-to-market for new integrations.

4. Product Strategy & Roadmap
  • Define and maintain a multi-horizon technology product roadmap aligned with company strategy, customer needs, and mortgage industry trends.
  • Lead the evaluation and prioritization of enhancement requests, defects, and strategic initiatives using data-driven frameworks.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and market research within the mortgage insurance and broader mortgage technology landscape (LOSs, PPEs, POSs, Servicing Systems and GSE platforms).
  • Identify opportunities to leverage emerging technologies-including AI/ML, automation, and API-first architectures-to enhance our products and B2B integrations.
  • Contribute to annual and quarterly planning by articulating technology investment priorities with supporting business cases.

5. Business-IT Interface & Requirements Management
  • Act as the primary liaison between business units (Underwriting, Risk, Sales, Operations, Customer Service, Compliance) and IT/engineering teams.
  • Develop ROI analyses and cost-benefit models for proposed technology investments, incorporating development costs, operational impact, and measurable business value.
  • Track and report on realized benefits against projected outcomes post-launch.
  • Lead requirements-gathering sessions, workshops, and stakeholder interviews to elicit clear, well-scoped product requirements.
  • Author epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria that meet both business objectives and technical feasibility constraints.
  • Serve as a contextual bridge during sprint planning - bringing operational, partner, and business unit context to ensure development teams understand the real-world impact of the work they are taking on.
  • Manage expectations and maintain alignment between business goals, technical capabilities, and delivery timelines.

Qualifications
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, or related field.

Preferred Education
  • MBA or relevant Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum Experience
  • 5+ years of product management experience, with preference for FinTech, mortgage technology, or B2B financial services platforms.

Preferred Experience
  • 3+ years of direct experience in the mortgage, banking, or insurance industry-with hands-on knowledge of origination and/or servicing operations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, enterprise-grade technology products in a regulated environment.
  • Working knowledge of MISMO XML/JSON specifications and GSE data delivery requirements (iLAD, ULDD, UCD).
  • Familiarity with AI/ML applications in mortgage underwriting, risk assessment, or fraud detection.

Minimum Skills
  • Strong command of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Background in business analysis, consulting, or solutions architecture within financial services.
  • Functional understanding of B2B data integration concepts: EDI standards (ANSI X12, EDIFACT), API integrations (REST/JSON/XML), secure file transfer protocols (AS2, SFTP, HTTPS).
  • Deep working knowledge of the end-to-end mortgage lifecycle: origination (application, processing, underwriting, closing) and servicing (payment processing, escrow, default management, claims).

Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with MISMO data standards and their application in mortgage system integrations.
  • Knowledge of enterprise technology systems including LOS platforms, policy administration systems, underwriting platforms, CRM, and data analytics tools.
  • Understanding of mortgage insurance products, underwriting guidelines, and risk assessment frameworks.
  • Direct experience with MISMO XML/JSON mappings or GSE data delivery files (iLAD, ULDD, UCD).
  • Familiarity with GSE requirements (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac), CFPB regulations, RESPA, and other applicable compliance frameworks.
  • Understanding of B2B customer needs within the mortgage banking ecosystem-including lender systems, servicer platforms, and third-party technology integrations.
  • Understanding of cloud architecture, SaaS delivery models, and API-first product design.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools and basic SQL for querying and validating product metrics and data flows.

Preferred Certification(s)
  • Product management certification (CSPO, CPM, SAFe POPM, or equivalent).
  • MISMO Certified Mortgage Solutions Professional (CMSP) or equivalent industry certification.
