Summary
The Public Health Planner position supports the Department's community health assessment work and community health improvement initiatives. This includes analyzing and interpreting community health data, translating findings into clear narratives for diverse audiences, and sharing data findings and their implications for community health improvement to the public and community partners through written reports and presentations. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and analytical thinker who is passionate about improving health outcomes at the community level. A bachelor's degree in public health or a related field is required; a master's degree and prior public health experience are preferred.
This is an Essential Employee position. Essential employees are obligated to report to work as scheduled or remain at work during emergencies. Following is the Duty Statement for Essential Employees:
"Carries out essential job functions or assigned emergency duties which may involve assignments within the Department of Health Command Center, deployment to a field location to participate in public health activities, or other duties as required during periods of emergency. If received, emergency assignments may be performed under adverse conditions and continue for periods ranging from a few hours to several weeks."
Essential Duties
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret community health data from multiple sources; translate findings into clear, compelling narratives for public, partner, and policy audiences.
  • Support the development and presentation of community health assessments and other data reports.
  • Research and identify potential plans/policies for public health improvement opportunities in Chester County.
  • Participate in the department's design, implementation, and evaluation of community health improvement strategies with community members, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Write and present public-facing health information, including fact sheets, reports, and presentations, tailored to diverse audiences including community members and partner organizations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners /stakeholders to understand needs, resource limitations and build consensus to achieve goals.
  • Participate in local, state, and national meetings, as needed, to meet the goals of the program.
  • Serve as the coordinator for the Chester County Child Death Review (CDR) Team, including scheduling and facilitating case review meetings, maintaining confidential records, preparing annual reports, and liaising with state CDR leadership.
  • Perform other duties, tasks, and special projects, as required.

Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or trade school diploma, with coursework in, public health, health education, public policy, biological science, or a closely related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One to two years of public health experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and narrate public health data for various audiences

  • Ability to prepare and maintain written and data reports/plans.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in public health or related discipline.
  • Experience with community health assessments (CHA) or community health improvement plans (CHIP).
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools.
  • Two to four years public health experience.
