Lumos is looking for a full-time NOC Engineer I - Outage Management. The NOC Engineer I - Outage Management provides comprehensive support across the Lumos Core and Access Broadband Network, including IP, Transport, and Voice platforms. This role monitors network health, coordinates outage resolution, analyzes performance issues, and collaborates with engineering and operations teams to restore services quickly and maintain network reliability.

The NOC Engineer I - Outage Management, assists with outage isolation, third party ticket creation, chronic issue identification, root cause analysis, and customer or network fault resolution. This position requires strong analytical skills, the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to delivering high quality support across all network layers.

The NOC team operates in a 24/7 environment, and this position will operate specifically on a 3rd shift schedule (11 pm to 7 am). Success in this role requires effective communication, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues while partnering with Voice, IP, Transport, OSP, and Local Operations teams.

What You'll Do:

  • Coordinates network outages with Voice, Video, IP, Transport, OSP, and Local Operations teams to ensure quick and effective resolution.
  • Performs event notifications for internal teams, leadership, and external customers.
  • Assists with third party ticket creation and escalation for offnet outages.
  • Supports outage isolation, troubleshooting, and identification of chronic network issues.
  • Diagnoses and resolves escalated network performance problems and monitors impacted systems.
  • Provides technical and analytical support during root cause analysis and assists with action plan development.
  • Works customer and network trouble tickets to restore service and resolve faults.
  • Assists other NOC team members during critical outages and provides support across Voice, Transport, IP, and Broadband networks.
  • Supports Change Management activities when needed.
  • Completes additional duties and project assignments as provided by NOC leadership.

What You'll Bring:

  • Strong understanding of Ethernet and TCP IP networking and working knowledge of IEEE and ITU standards for FTTH and GPON technologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Access and Core engineering environments and support MPLS, layer two and layer three private networks, GPON and XGS PON networks, and multi protocol routing technologies.
  • Familiarity with the OSI model and how it applies to routing and transmission protocols including VRF, VPN, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, VPLS, and VPRN.
  • Knowledge of digital cross connect systems, multiplexing systems, and TL1 or CLI based provisioning.
  • Working knowledge of TDM, SONET, CWDM, DWDM, OTN, ROADM, and protection or switching methodologies.
  • Experience with Cisco, Ciena, Nokia routing platforms and the ability to support software or hardware upgrades across broadband access and core equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to deliver clear updates during outages or escalations.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast paced environment and collaborate effectively across technical teams.
  • Ability to work independently with sound judgment and initiative.

What Makes You a Great Fit:

  • High school diploma required and an Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2-4+ years of professional network operations experience or five or more years of related engineering or technical experience.
  • CCNA certification preferred.
  • Ability to work a 24/7 operational schedule including nights and weekends.
  • Strong commitment to service quality, customer support, and operational excellence.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently operates computer, keyboard, and related peripherals.
  • Able to remain seated at workstation for extended periods.
